What comes to mind when you hear the name Theodore?? (Theo)

Theodore (Theo) is currently top of our list for baby boy due in March but I'm not 100% about it. Something very specific comes to mind when I hear this name (don't want to say as don't want to influence any answers!) that currently has quite negative connotations/links.

So what comes to mind when you hear the name Theodore? What images/people spring to mind?

Thank you!!

We very nearly called our eldest Theo. Still love the name, but just wasn't sure, as we wanted to give a full name, rather than a nickname, on the birth certificate...& I wasn't fussed on Theodore at the time. It has grown on me since though.

I suppose I instantly think "Roosevelt" when I hear it...

Peppapigallowsmetoshower · 03/01/2016 14:39

Yeah Roosevelt.

One of my favourite names too. On my list.

I also think Teddy.

5madthings · 03/01/2016 14:42

My son, ds1(16) is a Theodore, known as theo and occasionally theodorable but he doesn't like that any more!

Also bill and teds most excellent adventure as ted was a Theodore I think?

We got the name from a book dh was reading, by Theodore driesel (sp)?

He has always been the only one of his age/peer group but it's become a bit more popular recently, not overly so though.

I like thst it has lots of variations so he can be theo, ted, etc as he gets older. He seems happy enough to be theo though.

5madthings · 03/01/2016 14:43

And yes to American president.

Flossiesmummy · 03/01/2016 14:47

For me it's Alvin, Simon, Theodore! Do doo, do do do do!

It's a lovely name though, go for it.

00100001 · 03/01/2016 14:52

Posh twats are in the vicinity

FellOutOfBedTwice · 03/01/2016 14:52

Another one who thinks of the chipmunks. Allllllvin!

Moltenpink · 03/01/2016 14:53

Just my son's friend at school comes to mind!

You could just use Theo? It's a lovely name on its own.

00100001 · 03/01/2016 14:53

And he has siblings called Jonty and Arabella

TiggyD · 03/01/2016 14:55

Chipmunks.

5madthings · 03/01/2016 14:57

We half thought about Alvin as a name for one of our others. Love the chipmunks, there is a new series of them on nick Jr? That my younger kids watch.

Our theo is the eldest of five, soon to be six and none of them are named jonty or arabella.

BumpAndGrind · 03/01/2016 15:09

Alvin, Simon, Theodore!

Sorry.

Hassled · 03/01/2016 15:10

The "hero" of the book The Goldfinch. Complicated, interesting. I like the name.

LumelaMme · 03/01/2016 15:12

Aw, Binary! That's harsh!

I have a lovely nephew called Theodore. He's just fab: down to earth, lively, good company, kind. He's not posh: he went to the nearest comprehensive, did odd-jobs because he had to earn his own cash for holidays etc. When I think of the name, I think of him.

I also know a very handsome but not very bright dog called Theo

00100001 · 03/01/2016 15:16

That's what comes to mind, the OP asked! Smile

00100001 · 03/01/2016 15:17

Its like if I hear the name Isabelle, I always think "oh dear, not another one"

Issie339 · 03/01/2016 15:18

Oh yes, haha, The Chipmunks, I hadn't thought of that! Hadn't thought of Bill & Ted either.

Thank you all for your replies, American President is a good namesake I think! I'd never thought of it as posh really but I guess there are worse things.

Yes I definitely wanted honest answers so thank you binary! No point asking for honest answers and then getting upset when people give negative answers Grin

It's one of my favourite names for a boy (I am definitely NOT posh Grin ) but I must admit that chipmunks do come to mind. Theodore is my favourite Chipmunk.

lljkk · 03/01/2016 15:25

Roosevelt, chipmunks.
Theo: Walcott, that guy on Dragon's Den, MN because Theo is very popular here.

I don't actually like either Th name, btw. My taste is more solid names.

DragonboysMum · 03/01/2016 15:25

Chipmunks! Grin

It's one of DP's top choices for our little bump but I just can't - every time I hear it I start singing the theme tune in my head!

pieceofpurplesky · 03/01/2016 15:27

Chipmunk. Or the book Holes.

Issie339 · 03/01/2016 15:27

Good to see no one has mentioned what I was thinking of at least! I always think of The Cosby Show (Theo Huxtable) straight away and with all the negative awful stuff around Bill Cosby at the moment it was putting me off. It was the first thing my sister said when I mentioned Theodore too, but maybe it's just because we both loved the show as kids...maybe a niche 80's/90's reference?

enderwoman · 03/01/2016 15:34

I never think of the Cosby Show when I see kids called William or Billy.

I think of US president, footballer and Dragons Den.

wasabipeanut · 03/01/2016 15:41

Chipmunks here too. Sorry!
