Short(ish) girl's name to go with Isla

DC2 due in a matter of weeks (although I suspect it'll come earlier). We don't know the gender but still have boys' names from last time.

We already have an Isla; she had no name for 4 days as we're blatantly a bit rubbish at this whole 'naming a kid' thing.

Surname is a mouthful- 19 letters and lots of Rs and Fs. Both surnames are English so not unusual or tricky; just long together. Consequently, first name has to be short but can be a bit more unusual.

So far, our shortlist is:

Rosa (I really like it, but first surname starts with R and there are 4 in the surname altogether!)
Emily (nice, but a bit plain)
Lily (very popular dawn sauf)
Freya (two Fs in surname, and second surname starts with F)
Imogen (too similar to Isla?)
Ella (too similar to Isla?)

Help please!

I like Rosa. Don't see the problem with two Rs.

I think Emily and Lily are overused.

Don't really like Freya or Imogen.

Ella is okay.

What about Esme, Etta, Ruby?

DionChappie · 28/12/2015 21:05

My girls names were Roan (the missing girl from the Wicker Man). I also loved Isla. And Lilah was my other girls name.

Having a sense of your last name is helpful, though I am pretending its something like

Rastafarian-Fellas

I like Rosa. Also Olive. Poppy is a good one and I love Caro, not sure anyone has suggested that yet.

Dammit, CherryPits- spot on! How did you know?!

Both DP and I like Naimh but poor kid will have to spell its surname out to all and sundry (although, like I said, each name is fairly normal) so to give it a complicated first name too seems mean. And I'd rather do the 'proper' spelling rather than Neve etc.

Rosa is my favourite. I'd definitely avoid Lily, it's crazily popular around here although might I suppose be regional.
