Short(ish) girl's name to go with Isla

DC2 due in a matter of weeks (although I suspect it'll come earlier). We don't know the gender but still have boys' names from last time.

We already have an Isla; she had no name for 4 days as we're blatantly a bit rubbish at this whole 'naming a kid' thing.

Surname is a mouthful- 19 letters and lots of Rs and Fs. Both surnames are English so not unusual or tricky; just long together. Consequently, first name has to be short but can be a bit more unusual.

So far, our shortlist is:

Rosa (I really like it, but first surname starts with R and there are 4 in the surname altogether!)
Emily (nice, but a bit plain)
Lily (very popular dawn sauf)
Freya (two Fs in surname, and second surname starts with F)
Imogen (too similar to Isla?)
Ella (too similar to Isla?)

Help please!

I've got an Isla and Esme.

Isla and Emily sound lovely together. Emily isn't very common in my area - I can think of only one little girl in the year (60 kids) called that name.

Rosa is lovely, I don't think initials R R matter.

Emily is fairly uncommon here, I know only one in very large nursery/social group. Most of the Emily's I know (many) are aged 12-14.

I'm afraid I don't hugely like any of your pairings.
Rosa is lovely but sounds as though it's a no-go with your surname.
I would avoid Imogen because the sibling sets I know where there are two of the same gender, and whose names start with the same letter, always get mixed up!

I think Isla sounds nice with names that don't begin or end with vowels e.g.:

Felicity
Tess
Kate
Grace
Megan
Charlotte

Good Luck!

Are there any letters you're drawn towards? I found that a good place to go to. There are also letter's I'm not so fond of too which is another matter altogether

If there's a particular letter, then it'd be E. Most of the long list seem to start with E, although none sets my heart on fire.

Other ones that have been discussed are:

Edie (would be mispronounced and misspelt)
Evie ('it's a pokemon' says DP)
Elodie (sounds like Melody)
Eloise (I know a Heloise, and can't distance the name from her mentally)
Esme (I know one, and can't distance the name from her mentally)

Would people really misspell/mispronounce Edie? Shock

Juniper4004 · 19/01/2016 21:32

I'm thinking she'd get called Eddie a lot.

Artandco · 19/01/2016 21:41

I would spell Edie as Eadie to be honest as a) that's how many seem to spell, b) easier to pronounce

Artandco · 19/01/2016 21:44

Edith
Etta

Elin

Surf25 · 19/01/2016 21:44

Evie, Emily, Elise

I've never come across any problems with Edie but perhaps more common north of the border which may not be where you are!

What about Louisa? Similar to Eloise?

How about Eden with Edie as a nickname if you're worried about mispronunciation?

I know an Isla (middle name Niamh) & sister Phoebe. I also like Anna, Nora & Ester.

Thought I'd return and let you know that our little girl was born on Saturday and is now officially Rosa Smile

Poor kid might have a bit of a tough time of it with all of the Rs, but everyone needs an obstacle to overcome, right??
