Only a few weeks to go and we have finally decided on Duke for a boy and Dulcie for a girl yay :-) x

Both are hideous. Poor kid.

lunar1 · 13/12/2015 07:14

Not keen on either.

Scarydinosaurs · 13/12/2015 07:19

Dulcie is nice.

Duke is awful.

nooka · 13/12/2015 07:37

Our next door neighbours have a dog called Duke. In line with earlier comments I can confirm that he is an Alsation (cross) with anger management problems. They've just been told by our local dog warden that he needs to be kept on a lead and muzzled :(

CPtart · 13/12/2015 07:54

Yikes. No to both.

Salene · 13/12/2015 07:56

Dulcie is ok

Duke is awfu 😁

missmargot · 13/12/2015 08:16

I like Dulcie a lot but would definitely raise my eyebrows at Duke.

defineme · 13/12/2015 08:23

Dulcie fine.
I actually considered Duke 14 years ago whilst going through my music collection for inspiration with ds1, thankfully dh laughed uproariously and we settled on Isaac (after Isaac Hayes) instead.

Pepperpot99 · 13/12/2015 08:26

I prefer 'Lord' or 'Baron'. Or at a stretch 'Viscount'.

'Duke' is a little common, IMO.

guineapig1 · 13/12/2015 08:31

Dulcie is fine. Has a definite vintage/granny chic feel but is fine.

Duke depends entirely on where you live. If you are in quite a cosmopolitan area it might be that no one would bat an eyelid. Other areas not so much and generally reserved for dogs, horses or as a title!

At the end of the day call your baby what you want. Life would be pretty dull if everyone named their children from the mumsnet approved list!! I think that if you like a name but have reservations you could always use it as a middle name or add a more mainstream middle name as a "reserve".

JellyBaby26 · 13/12/2015 08:31

He could be friends with Kimye's boy?

Saint and Duke.

Now we just need a Baron, Lord, Duchess, Countess.....

Sorry I'm being mean but these are things that would be said to your son to his face and behind his back.

Pray it's a girl...

nooka · 13/12/2015 08:36

My very working class grandfather in law was called Baron. We used two of our grandmother's names for dd, but none of the grandfathers for ds (one of my grandfathers was called Basil, I think Baron is slightly better, but we really didn't think either were usable!)

Duke is the top title in the peerage (which is why the honorary title in the Royal family tend to be Dukes, eg the Duke of Edinburgh for example).

Blu · 13/12/2015 08:38

Dulcie is a great name. Love it.

Stasie · 13/12/2015 08:52

Oh dear. Poor OP. Hope you are Ok Brew

I do think Dulcie is very nice.

happystory · 13/12/2015 09:05

I'm with the majority please reconsider Duke

MarieJeanne · 13/12/2015 09:11

Going by everyone's comments, I just hope you have a girl.

GoApeShit · 13/12/2015 09:17

Where have you gone, OP?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/12/2015 14:15

Duke's a good name. I'm not mad about Dulcie, though. I agree with Scarlett, Darcy is much nicer but its your baby

GiantChocButtons06 · 04/01/2016 13:33

thank you everyone, sorry i have been offline for a while. baby is now 4 days late :( Darcy was top of our list too but seems very popular so this is why we opted for Dulcie instead, pronounced Dull-See. I have been having very slight reservations about duke the last few days, i know it will either be a love it or hate it name. i haven't mentioned anything to my partner as he really likes it, so im just going to wait and see if its a boy or girl first and then see how i feel once its here x

Tiggeryoubastard · 04/01/2016 14:13

Please don't do that to a child. I guarantee there will be lots of snickering and comments following a poor child called 'Duke' around for his life. Why would you do that to a child you love?

BooOzMoo · 04/01/2016 14:28

Dulcie is not that bad. I can't stand Darcy. Arsey Darcy. Duke is defo a dog!

helensburgh · 04/01/2016 14:32

Oh my not my cup of tea.

Dulcie reminds me of dome dort of cheese and duke reminds me of a dog.
However your choice
