Too utterly utter?

Love the nn Zeb as does DH and he rather unexpectedly said that he had fallen for Zebedee last night (having initially vetoed a couple of months ago). He's not keen on Zebediah which I guess would be the most 'sensible' alternative.

We already have a DS with a name that's not particularly unusual but hardly encountered on a daily basis. We think it would go well with Zebedee/Zeb so that's not a consideration...

I mean all very well when he's a cute boingy springy toddler, but what about when he is 50 and the head of the World Bank, hmm? WHAT THEN?

ElinorRochdale · 18/11/2015 20:09

Zebulon was Grandpa Walton's name, iirc.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 19/11/2015 06:22

Is your surname Tring?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 19/11/2015 06:55

Zeb is a great nickname but zebedee isn't great. Go for zebediah if you want a long name.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/11/2015 10:25

Zeb is cool but Zebedee is just too associated with the Magic Roundabout. It would be like calling your child Zippy (I do know that Zippy isn't a Hebrew name. Or any sort of name!)

I know MN wisdom recommends putting a 'proper' name on the birth cert for 'options' later in life but in this case I think the nickname is the best bet.

TillyTolly · 19/11/2015 10:28

Zipporah?!

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/11/2015 10:32

Have never heard Zipporah before!

Do you think Zippy from Rainbow was a Zipporah? Grin

Katiekatiekatie · 19/11/2015 10:41

Zeb is cool
Zebedee is just embarrassing the poor child

There are lots of Sams and Toms about who aren't Samuels or Thomases

JasperDamerel · 19/11/2015 10:59

Zipporah is a girls' name though, so not really an alternative to Zebedee.

DramaAlpaca · 19/11/2015 11:03

I love Zeb. I can imagine a cute teenage Zeb and a cool teenage Zeb. But Zebedee - no. Too many Magic Roundabout memories for me.

TillyTolly · 19/11/2015 11:17

MitzyLeFrouf Zippy definitely more of a Zipporah than a Hepzibah Wink

JokerOnTheHilltop · 19/11/2015 11:25

I love Zeb and Zebedee ( and have a Zephaniah)

RollingRollingRolling · 19/11/2015 14:44

I'd say go for it, who cares if some older people might remember a tv show. All names come from somewhere/have an actor on eastEnders etc etc

celtictoast · 19/11/2015 15:04

Grin at Zippy being a Biblical name

MamaLazarou · 19/11/2015 19:36

Grin at Zippy being Zipporah on his birth certificate!

MamaLazarou · 19/11/2015 19:37

I love Zeb, btw, but Zebedee is too much.

IoraRua · 19/11/2015 19:40

God Almighty. No. It's way too much of a name to land him with.

IoraRua · 19/11/2015 19:40

Zeb isn't bad though. Or Seb? You could call him Sebastian?

Blarblarblar · 19/11/2015 19:56

I started reading the thread and thought , fuck no are you bonkers. I've finished reading the thread having said it in my head a million times and think yes. It's unusual yes but everyone will get used to it. Go for it and Zeb is a very cool boy Wink

monkeywrench · 19/11/2015 20:04

Interestingly Zebulon is the name for Zebedee in the German version of the Magic Roundabout (Zauberkarussel) i prefer Zebulon. I know a Zef, and there are loads of Zef beginning names too...www.babynamespedia.com/start/m/zef

MyNewBearTotoro · 19/11/2015 23:09

OF all the Zeb names I like Zebediah the best. Zebedee just sounds like the name of a kids cartoon character (which I'm aware it is) - to me it doesn't sound like a genuine name. Zeb is a good nn though and perhaps by the time your baby is an adult The Magic Roundabout will be long forgotten.

100% no on Zebulon though. Too close to nebulon and just doesn't sound anything like a name, sorry.
