The list so far:
Hazel
Iris
Violet
Fern
To go with sister Ivy.

Any suggestions?

Apologies for the brevity. Typing in between vomiting and watching Strictly.

Margurite, Melissa and Jasmine are my favourites but I think Hazel and Violet sound best with your Dd.

I love botanical names but struggled to get them past Dh. Margurite in particular. There are a few names that have other meanings as well as the botanical ones. I think Margurite means daisy and Pearl for example.

I do see how some people would think two plant names are twee but it wouldn't stop me. There are sisters who are celebrity cooks called Jasmine and Melissa and it really suits them I think.

Dahlia
Jasmine
Olive
Cassia
Senna
Althea
Amber
Ione
Linnea

I think Ivy and Olive go well

Yes, Primavera does mean spring in Italian and that is indeed its primary meaning, but it has also sometimes been used as the name for a personification of spring, also known as Flora, the goodess of flowers.

I am due today with a little girl and we are hoping to name her Clover. I love it but appreciate it might not be everyone's taste!

lozengeoflove · 25/10/2015 13:17

Saffron reminds me of curries too much.
Clover and Olive are both lovely, but DP doesn't agree. All the best Anna - hope baby arrives on time.

Two plant names might be quite twee, but I definitely don't want two individual frilly names Smile

Might be pronounced as Ester in our neck of the London woods. Guess we might have the same issue with Azel, but that's not putting me off.

What about just nature rather than plant names?

Aurora
Estelle
Coral
Marina
Opal

Thank you so much for your kind suggestions everyone. Thinking about a lot of these.

There's an added difficulty of being a teacher who has taught at least one student whose memory sours many of the suggestions.

Will keep thinking about it all.

Zinnia
Love Aster but worry about nn Ass!
We are prob going with Delphie as a kind of shortening of delphinium.

TiffanyAtBreakfast · 30/10/2015 19:50

I think Iris is too close to Ivy.

Sisters Hazel and Ivy sounds adorable.

Also like a PP's suggestion of Sage.

lozengeoflove · 30/10/2015 20:50

I think you're probably right Tiffany. DP has now decided that other than some of the names on the original shortlist, he really likes Elsie.

Keziah (a version of Cassia)
Chloe (means green or new shoot)
Jacinta (Spanish or possibly Portuguese version of Hyacinth/Cynthia)
Mirabel (a kind of plum)
Rue
Eirlys (snowdrop in Welsh)
Tamara or Tamar (date palm)
Flora
Susanna (means lily)
Aven (little blue Alpine flower)
Zoe - refers to all life

lozengeoflove · 01/11/2015 18:24

Nice suggestions mathanxiety, I quite like Flora. DP not convinced. Rue makes me think of trembling child tribute in 'Hunger Games', and Susanna of S Reid. No, no, no.

I just read a lovely book: The seed collectors by Scarlet Thomas and most of the lady family/characters had gardeny names e.g Briar Rose, Fleur, Clematis, Lavender, Plum, and Bryony

I thought it was super.

lozengeoflove · 01/11/2015 21:47

Gorgeous, grace Smile
