Opinions on Astrid?

Our baby is due in a few weeks and we have a total of 0 names. This will be our 5th girl so tbh it's hard to find one we like that isn't too similar to the ones we have already got!

Last night we both decided we like Astrid Elizabeth except then we realised the only way to shorten it would be as and we are worried she will get called ass at school etc ( we had a long conversation about this- we may be getting desperate!)

So seriously what does everyone think to Astrid ?

I think it is a lovely name, and a beautiful combination with Elizabeth.

I don't think the nn will be a problem, Astrid is a short name and doesn't require or invite shortening.

TurquoiseCat · 27/09/2015 20:30

Lovely name - if our initials worked I would definitely have pushed for this. Unfortunately, post might get a bit confusing if we did!

pickledparsnip · 27/09/2015 20:31

I love it. Excellent name.

annandale · 27/09/2015 20:32

Gorgeous name. You might find that nobody shortens it. If they do they're more likely to go for Sass or Trudy I would have thought.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 27/09/2015 20:34

I'd shorten it to Asti.

Don't particularly like it though (but that's not what you asked)

Sothisishowitfeels · 27/09/2015 20:34

Thanks ! We do really like it and I think it fits with our others (last baby was Rosemary Jayne).

Or Triss for short? Like it-classy.

lljkk · 27/09/2015 20:37

It just sounds harsh to me (sorry).
Ester? Hester, Henrietta, Anna, Victoria, Evelyn?

nelliestar · 27/09/2015 20:41

Love it! Very cool and quirky!

EldonAve · 27/09/2015 20:53

I love it

RiaOverTheRainbow · 27/09/2015 20:55

Love it, it's on the list for my hypothetical dd

LovelyTrees · 27/09/2015 21:02

I like it but that's probably because it's my DMs name. She never shortened it, always said it was short enough already.

SmugairleRoin · 27/09/2015 22:33

Could shorten to Tri?
I like it.

squoosh · 27/09/2015 23:33

I don't like it, but I knew a couple of awful Astrids growing up.

squoosh · 27/09/2015 23:34

And I don't like the 'ass' sound.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 28/09/2015 00:09

Makes me think of Astral cream, sorry.

MamaLazarou · 28/09/2015 06:52

I love Astrid (and Rosemary)!

Hackedabove · 28/09/2015 06:55

I really like it.

confusedandemployed · 28/09/2015 06:56

I love it, it was on my list.

Thebirdsneedseeds · 28/09/2015 06:58

Love it.

CakeRattleandRoll · 28/09/2015 07:01

It was on our list, too. We would have shortened it to Asti. (Or Astro Grin)

simplysarcastic · 28/09/2015 07:04

Lovely name Grin It will get shortened to Ass though, speaking from experience.

CruCru · 28/09/2015 07:55

I like it.

holmessweetholmes · 28/09/2015 07:58

Love it. I worked with someone who had a really cool daughter called Astrid and I always thought what a great name it was.

Thatsnotmybabyname · 28/09/2015 11:04

The Astrid I know is nicknamed Asta. I find it a really awkward name to say and always think of Asteroid everytime I see/write it!
