Opinions on Astrid?

Our baby is due in a few weeks and we have a total of 0 names. This will be our 5th girl so tbh it's hard to find one we like that isn't too similar to the ones we have already got!

Last night we both decided we like Astrid Elizabeth except then we realised the only way to shorten it would be as and we are worried she will get called ass at school etc ( we had a long conversation about this- we may be getting desperate!)

So seriously what does everyone think to Astrid ?

Love it!

Sophronia · 30/09/2015 16:43

The one I know sometimes goes by Asti

RiverTam · 30/09/2015 16:52

Astrid is lovely, but personally I hate all the nns suggested so far.

Zhabr · 30/09/2015 17:33

Astrid Lindgren, a prolific Swedish writer will be my association with that name.

Thighbrow · 30/09/2015 19:33

I love it too. We're seriously considering it for DD when she arrives too.

It's my name, so giving you an opinion from the horse's mouth...I hate it Sad. I think it sounds butch and harsh. The only exception is when a German man calls me by my name, and then it sounds alluring.

I sometimes get called Ass or Strid or Striddy, none of which I like.

As a child was called Ass, Asteroid, Astronaut, Astroturf, Astral, Asshole Shock. Nothing flattering. Hated it then, hate it now, I wish I was called Laura.

Elizabeth is a gorgeous name. Elizabeth Astrid?

If people called me Sass I'd love it! Maybe I should try and make this happen..."Hi, I'm Astrid, but people call me Sass", said with a click of the finger and a hair flick.

TattieHowkerz · 30/09/2015 20:21

I'm not sure about it with Elizabeth. That would make her Astrid E Surname I.e astride.

ManicPixieDream · 30/09/2015 20:27

I love this name. I know a baby Astrid and she is amazing. It makes me think of How to Train your Dragon. I think it's a strong warrior type name.

AnAstrid · 30/09/2015 20:38

To counter my name self-loathing... I've never met a horrible Astrid, they've all been awesome. Maybe having mean nicknames gives us all a sense of resilience and empathy.

CaptainKit · 01/10/2015 18:12

I know a baby Astrid born this year. I think it's a lovely name.

RJnomaaaaaargh · 01/10/2015 18:19

I love it. In fact I love it so much it's dd1s middle name and if I had known there was going to be a dd2 I would have kept it for her first name.

manicinsomniac · 01/10/2015 18:26

Really love it. I almost called DD3 this.

LondonBus · 01/10/2015 18:26

I think it's a great name.

I've only known two Astrids, and neighther of them has been called Ass.

Although the one I knew when I was 16 in the 80's did get called Astriiiiiid... as in D-Mob's "We call it acieed"

LondonBus · 01/10/2015 18:27

*neither

Bloody hell, I was using my phonics there. Blush
