Lucy, Frances, Emmeline or Florence? So stuck!!

I have got completely stuck on naming our DD3. DD1 has really unusual name, less than 20 of same name in year of her birth, DD2 has classic but not common name quite different to DD1. We had loved Florence from the start but DD2's name starts with F and also it seems to keep coming up on names that seem really popular at present. Also like Emmeline, Frances and then DH threw in Lucy. It's a bit dull, but we both really like it. Any thoughts?! Ideal name is classic or unusual but not 'of the moment'. Can see why people like them, but personally can't bear Ava, Evie, Lily, Poppy, Mia etc. I know Lucy may be quite like these but hypocritically still quite love it.

Florence & Emmaline both seem quite of the moment to me.

I do like Frances & Lucy, but prefer Francesca & Lucinda.

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2015 16:25

Lucy is lovely and much more of a classic than the names you say you can't bear. I don't like them either, but I like Lucy very much and you don't hear it much these days.

MajesticWhine · 12/09/2015 16:28

I like Emmeline and Florence. Can you share what your other DDs are called? Maybe it depends what goes well.

WotNoLoobrush · 12/09/2015 16:36

I like all the names you've picked op but I'd probably pick Lucy too. As said above it's a classic. The youngest Lucy I know is a teenager. Another F name might cause confusion with post when the girls are older? YY to above post about Florence being v popular now. I didn't realise Emmeline is gaining popularity.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 12/09/2015 16:37

I really like Frances which autocorrect seems to think should be France's Hmm

Classic, not 'of the moment' and unusual? Something like Anne, Caroline, Dorothea, Katherine, Louisa, Sarah, Rachel, Valerie?

SmugairleRoin · 12/09/2015 16:47

Florence is very of the moment, as is Emmeline (less so I suppose). Lucy is my favourite of your remaining two.

Suggestions: Jane, Lucinda/Lucille, Mary.

Mrsindecision · 12/09/2015 16:51

In terms of the most recent statistics, Lucy and Florence are similarly popular (c1700 Lucys and c1800 Florences). Both names in the Top 30. I personally know lots of both.
There were only 84 babies called Frances and 94 named Emmeline last year, so if popularity is an issue for you, these stats may be something to consider.

Bellejournee · 12/09/2015 18:57

I like all your choices, they're beautiful names. Frances is lovely and not a name you hear often if that concerns you. Lucille is pretty too (could be Lucy for short?).

FrogSong · 12/09/2015 19:08

Emmeline is my favourite from your list.

Sophronia · 12/09/2015 20:36

Frances or Emmeline.

steppemum · 12/09/2015 20:46

I have a Lucy, but her full name is longer. (it is a very unusual name so not going to post it). I have always felt that Lucy was a child's name and wanted her to have something more grown up to use if she wanted to.

Her middle name is Frances, because it is a family name!

I wouldn't use Frances as a first name though.

I love Emmeline.

SanityClause · 12/09/2015 20:51

I like Frances and Emmeline, although Emmeline Frances flows better, but she should usually be known as Fran.

IMVHO! Wink

peacefuleasyfeeling · 12/09/2015 20:53

Lucy and Frances. Classic and chic. My DD2 and my DM Grin

PetersonPeterson · 12/09/2015 21:52

Thank you. I think it's between Lucy and Frances. Although there are still a couple more weeks to change my mind...

If it's between Lucy and Frances. Definitely Frances.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 23:35

I like Frances and Lucy.

Really don't like Florence or Emmeline. Even though Lucy seems a bit dull Florence is very of the moment so will date in a more obvious way. In my opinion anyway.

BeBesideTheSea · 12/09/2015 23:39

Not Frances - it will constantly be misspelled as Francis (boys version). Even by teachers on school reports.

[might be a tad bitter]

Francesca. Much nicer.

Sophronia · 12/09/2015 23:42

I much prefer Frances to Lucy.

RickOShay · 13/09/2015 08:42

Frances.

Coolforthesummer · 13/09/2015 08:44

Don't particularly like Frances. Love Emmeline.

pilates · 13/09/2015 14:14

Emmeline Lucy sounds gorgeous.

Not keen on Frances.

iamnotaponceyloudperson · 13/09/2015 14:28

i think Emmeline is gorgeous & Lucy is classic and pretty without reaching cutesy.

I find Frances & Florence a bit clumpy and Florence is very much of the moment in some circles - it sounds like it should be unusual but isn't.

iamnotaponceyloudperson · 13/09/2015 14:29

Ooh yes don't like Frances but Francesca is lovely.

PetersonPeterson · 13/09/2015 17:42

Interesting that everyone has such different takes on it. I guess there are always going to be people who like your baby's name and those who don't. But unless it's something really awful no one else apart from you really thinks about it after the first week. Not keen on Francesca, to me it's quite a different name to Frances. Frances and Lucy still my favourites I think.

Emmeline is lovely. Florence would be my second choice from your list. Lucy is ok but a bit dull IMO. Frances is dowdy, Francesca is much nicer. But I'd definitely go with Emmeline.
