We have chosen the name Luna for our baby girl, but some friends said it sounds too posh?!?

Yep, hippy not posh.

happymummyone · 27/08/2015 13:27

Lovely. Quite Harry Potter in my mind, but I'm one of those adults that hasn't yet grown out of it.

Wishful80smontage · 27/08/2015 13:29

Not posh bit hippy-ish/hipster vibe.

Viviennemary · 27/08/2015 14:01

I don't think it's posh. Not very keen on it I have to say. It's a little bit way out. Probably one of those names where there will be a fad and then never heard of again. I've never heard of a Luna. Princess Luna. Doctor Luna. Maybe in a science fiction book I suppose.

reuset · 27/08/2015 17:48

Almost the opposite in fact. Pseudo hippy name. Not my favourite.

CheekyMaleekey · 27/08/2015 17:50

Not posh and lacks the r at the end to be a hippy name. Just sounds a bit tacky and try-hard to me.

scatterthenuns · 27/08/2015 17:52

Not posh. Hippy or a bit mental. Was used in Harry Potter to allude to someone being off beat as a bit of a Loon.

TheBeautifulAndTheDamned · 27/08/2015 17:53

Not at all posh in my book.

LilacLavender · 27/08/2015 17:54

Are you Harry Potter fans? That's the first thought that came to my head - Luna from Harry Potter! Although I can't talk as I picked Lily because I love Harry Potter Blush

JustOneMinuteAtATime · 27/08/2015 17:56

It'll be Harry Potter, rather than loony, as no one uses that word anymore.

And possibly lunar eclipse, after that dreadful advert that won't die.

juneau · 27/08/2015 17:57

Not posh, no. Hippie maybe? Anything earthy or celestial is a bit hippy.

Junosmum · 27/08/2015 18:00

I love it. Not posh at all. OH vetoed it though as he thinks it sounds like lunatic.

BabyLadyGirl · 27/08/2015 18:02

See I thought of it as more hippy or hipster than posh.
Think we're going to go for it, although looked at the baby name lists and it was one of the biggest climbers last year!

OP posts:
scatterthenuns · 27/08/2015 18:04

loony, as no one uses that word anymore.

Really? Are you the authority on words? Loon, looney bin, lunatic, all in common use.

LilacLavender · 27/08/2015 18:05

It's all the Harry Potter fans Wink

LilacLavender · 27/08/2015 18:05

(Who have made the name climb!)

PermetsTu · 27/08/2015 18:08

I think it used to be considered a fairly hippy type name but through popular use it has morphed into quite run of the mill. It's similar in feel to names like Eden or Summer. Climbing the charts.

Not posh at all.

MamaLazarou · 27/08/2015 18:10

Luna's not posh in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact.

ImperialBlether · 27/08/2015 18:13

It's the opposite of posh.

Doublebubblebubble · 27/08/2015 21:13

Not posh at all. It does remind me of my dds buggy (Luna mix from mamas and papas) though. If you like it go for it who cares what anyone else thinks XP

lunar1 · 27/08/2015 21:15

It really needs the r on the endWink

BabyLadyGirl · 27/08/2015 22:40

Do you think it will become much more popular?

OP posts:
Andante58 · 27/08/2015 22:44

Why do you care if it's 'posh'? It isn't, anyway.

BabyLadyGirl · 27/08/2015 22:50

Because I don't really want a posh name. Don't want people thinking I'm trying to be something I'm not.

Smellyoulateralligator · 27/08/2015 22:57

Spell it Plyeunagh, I reckon Wink.

Seriously though, if you like it it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. Luna is nice name, although I'd assume you are a HP fan.
