I'm 36 weeks pregnant with my second daughter and really struggling to choose a nice cute name. It has to be a Muslim name to please my dh but I'd also like one that is almost English too - easy to pronounce and cute. My daughter is called Aalia which I really like so I'd prefer my baby's name to start with a different letter. My sons name is really difficult and nobody can pronounce it which annoys him. Thanks in advance Smile

Sara(h), Laila and Yasmin(e) would probably be the easiest for English speakers.

Zahra, Hanna(h) and Nadia as well.

My favourite would have to be Maryam though, I think it's lovely and it's similar to Miriam.

iaintgettingonnoplane · 03/08/2015 13:35

Leila is beautiful.
Soraya sounds so pretty and I love its meaning (Princess)

That should have been Taalia not Talks! Although it wasn't the best suggestion as you already have an Aalia...

Octopuses · 03/08/2015 20:46

Zahra would be nice because your girls are then a-z :)

I know muslim girls with all of these names which are easy enough to pronounce and spell in English.

Shakira (not English-sounding, but everyone will be familiar with it)

Love Maryam and Jasmin

Lovelydiscusfish · 05/08/2015 00:27

Zainab is nice. And Nafisa I think is a lovely name,
I also really like Zahra and Sabrina, which have been suggested earlier.

Etak15 · 05/08/2015 00:43

Sumayah is lovely and great muslim name she was the first believer to become a martyr in islam, that's what I would have picked if my dc 4 was another girl! He was a boy and has a long name that no-one can pronounce like your son! My first two daughters I went with easy for English pronouncitation names but I love my 3rd dd's and ds's more unusual names.

Etak15 · 05/08/2015 00:45

All my girls have Amira - princess as middle name - I liked it as a first name but there was Amira on eastenders at the time so put dh off it :)

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/08/2015 01:10

Elisar?

A woman I used to work with (who is Muslim) called her daughter that, I think it's such a lovely name.

Pigriver · 06/08/2015 08:24

I think the key is in the spelling. Lots of Muslim names sound familiar/English but the more exaggerated/vowel laden spellings can confuse the English!

So Zara is often spelled zahraa etc. keep it simple if you are worried.

Nadia
Yasmin
Sara
Alisha
Maya/Maia
Maria (mar-i-a)
Hana
Summer
I know Muslim children with these names and spellings. Not sure how traditional summer is though!

Oh, I just remembered, as you are looking for a name that is 'easy to pronounce and cute:

Lulu (Arabic for 'pearls')

emmalouise90 · 07/08/2015 19:26

Aaliyah ??

redbinneo · 07/08/2015 19:32

What is a muslim name?
Do you mean names frequently used by muslims?

Etak15 · 07/08/2015 21:28

A muslim name is a name linked to islam most people like to use the name of a prophet, or descendent of, or a name of any muslim from history. Also has to be a name with good meaning and not with a meaning of anything that is against islam.
