Expecting DC2, have no idea for boys names, but for a girl, I would really like Madeleine, however I'm iffy about the McCann association, wouldn't like it to be the first thing people think of when they hear the name. So I'm looking for alternatives, any suggestions for me ?

Owner of a Madeleine here. There is no McCann association at all. Go for it.

TwinTum · 28/07/2015 17:29

I think it is absolutely fine to use madeleine (unless your surname is very similar to McCann). I know 3, 2 born before her disappearance and 1 born afterwards and I don't think there have been any issues. No different to using Holly or Jessica.

DD is Madeleine (pre-McCann)

In case our tastes are similar my other choices were

Imogen
Esther
Naomi (gone off that a bit now)

I would find things like clementine and annabel a bit fluffy.

Another here with a Madeleine. The McCann connection is quickly overtaken in your mind by your own Madeleine, and only one person has ever mentioned MM.

Also on our list were Juliet, Katherine and Jennifer. I also like Anneliese, Rosemary and Margot

tomatodizzymum · 28/07/2015 19:29

Madeliene in Spanish or Portuguese would be pronounced Madalena, which I think is pretty too.

I think you should ignore the McCann association. I know a few Madeleines and really don't see it as an issue.

But I would suggest Genevieve, Juliet/Juliette.

Amelia is very, very popular.
