HoldenCaulfield80 · 22/07/2015 06:47

Reminds me of Baywatch!

nooka · 22/07/2015 06:51

Is that pronounced hob - ee or more like hoab - ee? Either way it doesn't really sound like a name to me, more of a nick name maybe.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/07/2015 06:58

You wouldn't, would you? Not really?

ToysRLuv · 22/07/2015 06:58

Not a real name, IMO. Sounds like "hobby" or "hubby/ie", or "hoagie"..

MishMooshAndMogwai · 22/07/2015 07:03

I saw Mary berrys grandson Hobie on her program at the weekend and have been wondering what it's short for since!

Id never use it tbh, sounds a bit silly

Bubblesinthesummer · 22/07/2015 07:03

Sorry no, not for me. Sounds too mch like Hobby and even if pronounced like nooka says, virtually no one will say it correctly.

Seriouslyffs · 22/07/2015 07:06

As I Hobie wan knobie?
Or Hobo?
Err. No.

TheEagle · 22/07/2015 07:08

Yep all I can think of is Baywatch.

summerlovingliz · 22/07/2015 07:13

No to Hobie

Gumnast2014 · 22/07/2015 07:17

Love it from the goldfinch

maitaimojito · 22/07/2015 07:23

I just think 'hobo', sorry.

Fugghetaboutit · 22/07/2015 07:23

Is that Mary Berrys grandsons name? Saw that on the show the other day and thought wtf? Poncy sounding to me.

sweetpeame · 22/07/2015 08:10

Sounds awful, please don't use it!

loveareadingthanks · 22/07/2015 08:21

Weird, I rarely look in this bit as 99% of the names make me wince and everyone else seems to wax lyrical over them.

But I love Hobie. Really. and I can't imagine how anyone half literate could mispronounce it.

Guess it's one of those Marmite names.

marshmallowpies · 22/07/2015 08:24

I just finished The Goldfinch yesterday...it's nice, but Hobie is short for Hobart, it's just a nickname to me.

UrethraFranklin1 · 22/07/2015 10:17

No. People will constantly mishear it as Toby, child will be plagued!

BothEndsBurning · 22/07/2015 10:17

Is that short for Horrible?

AmysTiara · 22/07/2015 10:19

I hear hobo sorry

reuset · 22/07/2015 10:27

Hobie for a boy? Good idea for boys, and girls, keeps them out of mischief during the school holidays. Wink The other pronunciation sounds like a pet name for hobo.

A good name it does not make.

Babyfeverdrivingmecrazy · 22/07/2015 19:52

Loveareading I love it too!!

Rox19 · 22/07/2015 19:53

Haha looks like 'hobble' ? Weird name

Tanaqui · 22/07/2015 19:54

Love it, have you read after the rescue?

birchygoo · 22/07/2015 20:02

I met a hobie in America and he is now deceased but he was the most amazing man and for that I love this name as has great memories for me.

I think it's a cute baby name but also really suited him as a man

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/07/2015 20:37

Sorry but I think it is absolutely dreadful.

badg3r · 22/07/2015 20:49

For a hamster, Great.
For a baby, cruel... sorry!
