Rupert - honest opinions, please!

I really like the name Rupert, but my hubby thinks it sounds a bit 'overheard in Waitrose'! I can see his point, but I also think it's a good traditional name that will work well with his older sister's name (Martha) and sounds good on a boy and a man. However, I'd hate to think it would lead to bullying in the playground.

What do people honestly think? Thank you!!!

I love it but my DH vetoed it too - too posh apparently.Confused

I'm too peasant like to even know what a half-blue in croquet might be!

twirlypoo · 04/07/2015 20:14

Thanks again for your posts. Hubby just said he imagines George Osbourne would call his child something like Rupert, which has just utterly killed it for me now!

His children are Luke and Liberty. I think you can safely say Rupert isn't their taste. Grin

I like it

Fraggle, I assure you I'm equally peasant-y! You get a blue or half-blue for competing at a high level in Oxford and Cambridge sports teams, including in a varsity match. You get a stripy blazer, glory etc. I remember that Rupert because he was the only person I know who actually knew the rules of croquet, while the rest of us invented them/cheated/played drunk so it didn't count etc.

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 04/07/2015 22:06

My parents have a vair posh friend who knows the rules of croquet. He is now retired and spends a lot of time on his lawn.Grin

HaleMary · 04/07/2015 22:09

You don't really want anyone who knows them around - it's the cheating and arguing that's fun, imo. Grin

FraggleHair · 04/07/2015 22:18

I'll expose myself as a proper pleb now. It never even occurred to me that croquet was a sport that people actually competed in. I thought it was just a gentle pastime that posh people partook of on a summer's day in between eating cucumber sandwiches and getting up to hi jinx with the under gardener.

DD1 got given a kids set. She uses it like a hockey stick. classy like her mother.Grin
