My DH has suggested the name Hadley (middle name will be may no matter what the first name is) for our dd. I wasn't such a fan to begin with but it's really growing on me. My only concerns our a) I thought it was a boys name and b) I'm not sure it goes with our older dd's names (Zoë and Lilian)

What do you think?

I know of a Hadley, and he is a boy,
I'm not keen for either sex tbh

How about Zoe, Lillian and Harriet?

Mamabird3 · 24/06/2015 20:32

Id heard Hadley as a boys name as well. What about Halle/halleigh as an alternative, very similar and a girls name as far as I'm aware! :)

Stinkersmum · 24/06/2015 20:35

I know of a Hadley - defo a boys name. Nit a nice one at that either.

toobreathless · 24/06/2015 20:38

Love your older girls names.

It's not my cup of tea, it makes me think of radley and Hatley brands.

Harper?

Puffykins · 24/06/2015 20:43

Hadley Freeman is a VERY funny (female) journalist... Google her.

Kennington · 24/06/2015 20:44

Hadley was Ernest hemmingways wife
Also a woman who writes for the guardian
It is a lovely name

Nutellaplease · 24/06/2015 20:55

I like it, it's unusual but not completely out there.

FunkyPeacock · 24/06/2015 20:56

The only Hadley I know is male ....and he's a tosser which puts me off the name some what!

SaulGood · 24/06/2015 20:58

I think Hadley Fraser who is a very talented, very attractive man.

Sophronia · 24/06/2015 21:34

Sounds like a boys name to me. How about Hallie?

florascotia · 24/06/2015 21:56

Hadley Freeman is American, if that makes a difference. In the UK I think that Hadley is more often a male name. It's a surname, originally. IMHO there are nicer names for girls ....

Thenthatsthatthen · 24/06/2015 22:16

Apparently it means heather field which to me is feminine. But the only hadley i know is a boy (and spells it hadleigh) Confused. I really like hallie so i'll suggest that one to DH

My DD is a Barbie fan and females named Hadley feature in at least two of the most recent films. I agree it's more popular as a girl's name in the US. I quite like it.

SwearyInn · 24/06/2015 22:24

Makes me think of spandau ballet.

FishCanFly · 25/06/2015 10:45

I know a man Hadley.

ThePortlyPinUp · 25/06/2015 10:50

I love it as either a boys or girls name. It was actually my surname when I was born and I wish I'd have thought about it when I was pregnant with my dc's.

MitzyLeFrouf · 25/06/2015 10:55

Hadley is the name of the psycho prison warden in the Shawshank Redemption.

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 25/06/2015 11:14

I work with a female Hadley and also only know it as a female name, also belonging to Hadley Freeman and Hemingway's wife

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/06/2015 11:39

I don't like it. Can't stand surname type names.

reuset · 25/06/2015 12:29

I'm all for unisex names, but not keen on Hadley at all. It's a more common surname than first name.

IsadoraQuagmire · 25/06/2015 14:36

Sookie Stackhouse's cousin (girl, vampire) is named Hadley in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries books (The tv show True Blood was based on these)

bobajob · 25/06/2015 14:41

I love Hadley as a girls' name! It is very American sounding though. DP wouldn't have it :(

PallasCat · 26/06/2015 17:42

I really like it. Unusual but not weird, familiar enough that you shouldn't have problems with it getting mis-spelt. Most familiar with it from Hadley Freeman, as others have mentioned, so I would assume female although I would not be surprised to meet a male Hadley. I guess as it has surname origins, it really is a unisex name.
I actually think it goes really well with your DCs names. Fabulous!

duckbilled · 26/06/2015 17:46

I really like it, and have always seen it as a girls name.

Nicolae100 · 13/04/2017 12:29

I'm intrigued to know what name you went with? We have a gorgeous girl we named Hadley Elizabeth, she is now 4 years old. Only ever had positive remarks about her name. I love it as much now as I did back then. Never any problems with spelling or pronunciation. Go for what you like, she's your girl.
