hyphenated girls names

I sometimes think hyphenated names are a bit much but they are an acquired taste. I knew a little Amelia-Jane once and it suited her very much. I would like to hear more hyphenated girls names, particularly ones ending in 1-syllable names such as Ann and Jean. What do you think?

Hmmm. Not keen. A hyphenated name wouldn't be my choice, but they were all the rage when I was at school in the 1980s. Sarah-Jane, Carrie-Ann, Kelly-Marie and Sally-Anne, were all at my school. Most dropped the second name and were known by the first one.

The French hyphenated names seem to have higher standing. Over here in the UK seems to be quite the opposite. Though Lucy-Ann is very nice surely?

I think there are enough of them. Apparently, and for example, all the girls hyphenated names when added together would make a high top 100 name (I don't have the stats to back that up though, somebody would have to take a look).

Though there are too many of the cutesy hyphenated. I'd like to see different style to Ellie-May type names

They make me shudder, to be honest. Every second girl at the school l work in is Ellie / Ella / Lily HYPHEN Grace / May / Mai

I associate hyphenated names with being a bit hillbilly or wag wannabe.

It might just be me though!

Each to their own, with the exception of Amelia-Jane which will always be a naughty doll to me

My aunt was Marie- Louise, which I think is lovely.
A friend is Jackie-Lee, but dropped the Lee part of it.

We had the Donna-Marie's in the 70/80's and Lily- May's recently, no clue what was popular in between though

I don't like them, especially when the two two names don't sound nice together and have too many syllables.

I have a friend called Anne-Marie which I think is lovely. I also know a Sarah-Lou and a Sarah-Jane. I forget they are double barrelled names, they are just their names! I often use my daughter's first name and middle name together when I talk to her so it might sound like her name is double barrelled but it isn't! I just love how the two names sound together.

It's when the Mae/may/Mai thing starts getting involved that makes it naff IMO.

I wish I didn't dislike them, because it makes me feel like a snob, but I still do.

There are some that are ok: Mary-Rose, Anna-Kate... I think the key is that both names are quite simple, and that they are both "proper" names that could be used on their own (not a fan of Lou or Lee/Leigh as endings).

That's just my taste though.

I bloody hate them. They are either ridiculous, cutesy, infantilising bollocks like lettie-may, Lexie-Lou, Ellie-may etc which are not proper names for adult women with a scrap of dignity and gravitas, or they are two unrelated and terrible sounding names that sound like the parent couldn't decide what to choose like Alexa-phoebe or Elizabeth-Alice

I have a double barrelled name (unhyphenated). I have had every reaction to it that you can imagine, from our doctor's receptionist who always insists on saying it a couple of times because she loves it so much Confused, to someone who laughed in my face and said " don't be ridiculous, you've made that up".

I've seen similar names described on here as "pikey" Hmm and most people assume I'm American until they speak to me. It's so unusual that FB automatically joins you into the group when you sign up Confused.

On the plus side, it's impossible to age me from itWink.

It just seems unnecessary to me. Pick one name - don't be indecisive and lob in a hyphen between choice A and choice B.

Amber rose is lovely but itskanyes ex so kind of ruins it, mary-kate mary-jane, Melissa -rose, Alexa-Lee, I like Keelaigh- Marie, although I maybe made that up Confused

I don't think there's any harm in calling someone by their first two names, but I can't see the point of the hyphen. I'm sure the second part of the name gets dropped sometimes, even when there is a hyphen.
