What's the most unusual name?

Just that really our LIttle girl has a really unusual name, so much so you would struggle to find someone else with the name. I also have an unusual name and would like something completely different for our new addition who too is a girl.
What's the most unusual girls name you have heard or can suggest?

Matya

MadameJosephine · 25/05/2015 17:53

I know a lovely woman named Amna. She is Indian so it may be more common there but I've never met another and I think it's a gorgeous name

DampAndRotten · 25/05/2015 17:53

Celery

florascotia · 25/05/2015 17:54

Ignoring the 'trying too hard' vibe, which IMHO is a real danger:

Vibeke (say Viveka) German, but not common over here

Marsaili (the Scottish gaelic for Marjorie)

Mariota (medieval)

Eluned (say Elinnet)

Rosmerta (Celtic goddess)

There are others, but I think if you want to be really unique (why?) then that's got to be up to you ...

reuset · 25/05/2015 18:12

If you want to be unique it's scrabble pieces time.

Sure I could reel off some of the off beaten track names... But, why not just make a list of name you like, and/or your partner if you have one, look up popularity in the stats and records, and choose the most unusual.

Though I don't 'get' the desire for unusual names just for the sake of it, personally.

zen1980 · 25/05/2015 18:31

Our little girl couldn't suit her name more an everyone says how lovely it is an couldn't of been more well matched to her. What I personally don't like is when you tell someone a 'known' name that you have thought of eg our name for this baby for a long time was Darcie, and they say oh I know such and such a body has a Darcie... Personal choice as I say and the name we have at the moment is not completely unusual and would be happy with it. Just wanted to see if there were any other suggestions out there.

Chiana (female character from farscape)

PaperdollCartoon · 25/05/2015 18:38

Sorrel, yes like the herb. Was a character in a book, but I've never come across someone called that in real life. But I think its lovely.

zen1 · 25/05/2015 18:44

This gives some really interesting Medieval girls names that might be worth a look.

Marisola · 25/05/2015 19:24

Sexburga.

FlabbyFlabbyBits · 25/05/2015 19:45

Sexburga (pissing myself!). Sorry. I'll go away.

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 25/05/2015 19:56

Ludmilla
Rivka
Charis

3 random names off the top of my head that are uncommon in the UK (I think).

Do you want to go for something like a Japanese name? Or a Native American one?

AliaMairns · 25/05/2015 20:04

I've never met anyone with my name, Talia

3luckystars · 25/05/2015 20:08

Oh no! I was just about to post Sexburga but now it appears its not so unusual at all.

Only joking! But it is my favourite ever EVER name mentioned on here. Thank you so much I am skitting laughing here.

felkov · 25/05/2015 20:14

My DH wanted to call our DD

Vaila
Galactica
Xenia

sadly I vetoed them all

Kasey86 · 25/05/2015 20:18

Xariah (girl)
Talon (boy)
I also know a little girl called Persephone, they call her seffy for short.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 25/05/2015 20:24

I know girls called Honey, Ixia, Juniper, Kezia and Olympia.

But these days names like Alison, Janet, Joyce, Pamela and Susan would be equally uncommon.

zen1980 · 25/05/2015 20:26

I shall put some to dh in a bit I like Xenia x

MamaLazarou · 25/05/2015 21:20

I love Xenia.

How about:

Albertine
Liberty
Eirill
Marcella

ShadowFire · 25/05/2015 21:24

I came across a little Loveday a month or so ago. The only other place I've ever even heard of the name Loveday was in the Chalet School books.

AtomicDog · 25/05/2015 21:26

Abishag. Very unusual biblical female name.

TheBobbinIsWound · 25/05/2015 21:30

I used to know a Sorrel. Gorgeous name.Grin

I've known an Autumn. Really really pretty name. Suited her down to the ground.

I currently know a baby girl "Legacy" Hmm
