A thread on AIBU made me think that there are certain names I see getting a lot of love on MN but never hear in RL

Sylvie
Beatrix
Milo
Sebastien

There are loads more but I can't think? What other names are MN approved?

Of the names mentioned, I know real life owners of:

Milo
Sebastian (3)
Romilly
Genevieve
Ptolemy
Imogen (3)
Gabriel (2)
Jude
Anna
Benedict
Elodie
Francesca
Aneurin
Tobias
Luca
Sadie
Thea
Lucas (2)
Antigone/Tiggy (2!)
Angus (4)
Rex

Not that that means they aren't mn names. Mumsnetters are real people after all!

heylilbunny · 12/05/2015 23:08

We have a Gabriel and know a Sylvie, two boys called Lucas and two Sebastians! Do I win?

I also know
Angelorie
Jenica
Tiberio
Xander
Thorin (as in Oakenshield, highborn dwarf the from Lord of the Rings)

HeffaLumpers · 12/05/2015 23:18

I know a Cordelia, Sebastian, Genevieve, Theodore, Thea, Anna, Tobias, Jude, Gabriel, Benedict, Lucas, xander, and Imogen.

tomatodizzymum · 12/05/2015 23:19

I know a Cordelia. I also went to school with a Genevieve, a Clara and a Penelope, back in the early 80's, in London.

HeffaLumpers · 12/05/2015 23:19

Oh and a Penelope

Tootaboo · 13/05/2015 10:59

My niece is called Sylvia (sylvie) really suits her she's adorable.

Bue · 13/05/2015 12:16

Romilly is our girls' name and it makes me Grin when MNers say it is getting popular. According to the ONS something like 45 girls in E&W were called Romilly last year. A virtual avalanche of Romillys!!!

I know a Ptolemy and a Persephone!

notplayers · 13/05/2015 15:20

I have seen people on here singing the praises of names like Gladys, Elsie and Evelyn.
I don't know anyone in RL who likes those names.

ALittleFaith · 13/05/2015 15:22

I heard a Mum shout Barnaby, where's Cornelious? I said to DH she's probably a MNetter!

Mrsindecision · 13/05/2015 15:32

Both Elsie and Evelyn are statistically pretty popular and rank within the Top 50 - around 1200 of each in 2013. Only 6 babies called Gladys though!

balletnotlacrosse · 13/05/2015 15:48

Nancy and Audrey.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 13/05/2015 17:16

Threeplus1 · 14/05/2015 00:17

I know two Gabriel's and one Jude mynameis

I do agree though, some of the names people come up with on here are just complete madness Grin

swimmerforlife · 14/05/2015 08:16

Any name that doesn't end in 'ie' or 'ey' as it's considered twee.

Can someone tell me how to pronounce Plotomy? Obviously I'm not educated enough

Mrsindecision · 14/05/2015 09:41

It's spelt Ptolomy swimmer and the P is silent so is pronounced "Tol-em-ee".

Mrsindecision · 14/05/2015 09:43

*Ptolemy
