Opinions on Arlo?

DS is due in 5 weeks and we thought we'd more or less narrowed our shortlist to Conrad Miles or Miles Conrad Smile. I also like Arlo however although it feels very different to our other two names! I feel like Conrad and Miles are both fairly timeless ie. they could be a 60, 35 or 10 year old. I'm a little concerned that Arlo is seeing a spike in popularity and will seem faddy in the future. Thoughts?

To me, Miles is a nerdy loner. Not sure why! Conrad is a strong name I guess. I didn't like the name Arlo until I met one and now I quite like it... but really it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If you can say it 100 times a day, screech it across a room, shout it across a park, whisper I love you to it, then it's the right name :)

I don't like it. I don't get it; I don't think it sounds like a real name!

But then it's your decision, OP; if you like it, go for it!

I can see a 10 year old being called Arlo. Not a 50 year old though. I love Miles. :)

Hmmmm sherbetlemonD, that's exactly my concern I guess - will it be very dated in 20 years time...

I love Arlo but I do think it is a bit posh. If you live in a posh part of the south east then great but I discounted it-living in a northern city, with a northern accent I don't think it would go down well.

It's always sounded like a nickname to me, like Tommo or Jonno.

I know you said not but hey, sorry you don't have to listen, Miles and Conrad don't pair well at all imo, they have such an opposing feel.

Miles Arlo or Arlo Miles is lovely

As is Conrad something else.

Uncle Arlo is lovely, grandad Arlo, I don't think it will date

Arlo is a great name.
It worked well for Arlo Guthrie a generation ago so has already proved its potential for longevity.
What about Milo for something with a touch of bothMiles and Arlo?

Eek, sorry! You stated the other names so you're bound to get opinions on them, people will give their views on which of your options they prefer. As did I :) I had this same conversation on a similar site when I was pregnant last year and I ended up going with my gut feeling. And I was right; my baby daughter is beautiful and her name does her justice. Trust your instincts!

Arlo Guthrie would be the only Arlo I've ever heard of, and I bet I'm not alone. So I don't think that's really evidence for longevity.

I like both Miles and Conrad very much, by the way.

I knew a lovely, but very unposh very West-country Arlo back in the 80s, so I'll always think of it in a strong Somerset accent, but a good friend has just called his son Arlo. I like it and didn't realise that it was enjoying a spike in popularity.

(I absolutely love Miles, and it would have been on my list, but my surname is Long....)

Arlo has a lovely sound and I think it suits all ages. My only problem with it is that it's one of those names I've only ever heard on mn baby name threads - never in real life.

I love Arlo. It's top of my list if I were to have another boy. I knew a couple of little boys called Arlo, all very cool, individual kids. Really great name.

Just looked it up and discovered it's a variation on Harlow.. I really like Harlow as, a name too,but would never use it as I've been to the town and it's not that nice!

Miles is a rather creepy man, slimy lounge lizard type.

Conrad is the offspring of radical communists. Please don't do it with a K.

Arlo is delightful but becoming more common.

Thanks everyone for your comments! It's funny to read some of the very strong opinions on here Smile. I suppose because I've also never met an Arlo in real life, I'm struggling a little more with it but good to hear that people don't necessarily think it will date badly. I think we've officially added it to the list (which was supposed to be getting smaller!!).

Arlo makes me think of Harlow town and indeed it's how people pronounce Harlow around here.

I really like Miles and Conrad. I do think Arlo is having a boost in popularity and I read there is an Arlo in an upcoming Disney film so that might increase popularity too.
