Opinions on Arlo?

DS is due in 5 weeks and we thought we'd more or less narrowed our shortlist to Conrad Miles or Miles Conrad Smile. I also like Arlo however although it feels very different to our other two names! I feel like Conrad and Miles are both fairly timeless ie. they could be a 60, 35 or 10 year old. I'm a little concerned that Arlo is seeing a spike in popularity and will seem faddy in the future. Thoughts?

I really like Miles and Conrad. I do think Arlo is having a boost in popularity and I read there is an Arlo in an upcoming Disney film so that might increase popularity too.

Sophronia · 07/05/2015 14:36

I think Arlo will be quite faddy. I much prefer Miles Conrad.

missmillimentscardigan · 07/05/2015 15:57

I love Miles. It sounds like a dashing ww2 pilot to me! Arlo is nice too. It's unusual without being too 'out there'. Milo is a good name too imo.

IvoryMadonna · 07/05/2015 17:16

A quick search on England & Wales birth registrations for the 20 year period 1985-2005 brings up 338 people named Arlo - but a lot of them have it as a middle name.

1965-1985 there are 116, again this includes middle names. None came up for 1945-1965.

Arlo is interesting. I'm not sure if I like it- and that's not a bad thing, because you like it! It's growing on me.

LemonYellowSun · 07/05/2015 18:04

Not keen to be honest. Sounds like someone dropping their Hs

sweetpeame · 07/05/2015 21:22

Oooh thanks IvoryMadonna, very impressed with that!

Sounds like your dropping your 'H' on Harlow

jugglingmonkey · 08/05/2015 19:30

Love love love all three of your boy names... I think Arlo is going to go popular though so I'd stick to Miles Conrad (these are both on my list!)

albertcampionscat · 10/05/2015 13:41

There are quite a few little Arlos around, but it is still a nice name.

ch1134 · 10/05/2015 20:40

Just seeing the title of the thread I thought 'very 2014/15'. So in answer to your concern, I think Miles and Conrad are much more timeless (if something can be more -less?).
I prefer Miles.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/05/2015 00:40

I like Arlo. I recently met a 30 something one and thought 'nice, cool name'. But, it could be becoming a bit trendy.

I think it's sort of in the same 'name type' category as Miles. Also cool and nice. Milo is more cutesy and try-hard trendy to me.

Arlo is the name of the cat in Bing btw.

Mutteroo · 11/05/2015 01:05

The only Arlo I know is 20. His parents are quite bohemian, intelligent folk & so is Arlo. Their other child is another boy named Paris. Like both the names & do not see them as faddy names.

Miles & Conrad pale into comparison next to Arlo.

toobreathless · 11/05/2015 09:16

I much prefer Miles & Conrad.

Find Arlo a bit 'wet'

Allthatnonsense · 11/05/2015 09:20

Arlo is suddenly very popular.

Much prefer Conrad and Miles.

DuncanQuagmire · 11/05/2015 09:21

Arlo does sound like Harlow....
I have a nephew called this, it seems to be increasingly popular.

juneau · 11/05/2015 09:24

I like Miles. Not so keen on Arlo. What about Milo?

Mayvis · 11/05/2015 09:29

I'm from Essex.

I could never use it. Have you ever been to Harlow?

sweetpeame · 11/05/2015 10:25

I've never been to Harlow and don't plan on ever going either Smile. I'm not worried about people thinking it's Harlow without the "h" where we live. I do think on balance though and given the feedback, that although I like the name, I am still a bit concerned that it's too much an "of the moment" name iykwim. I'm not keen on Milo as there are too many popping up at the moment where we live (2 in DD's nursery already and it's not a very big one!). I think we're back to Conrad or Miles Smile. Might use it as a middle name if we go with Miles as suggested previously. Thanks everyone!!

I really like it but I live 10 miles from Harlow and err....yeah I wouldn't use it here Grin anywhere outside of Essex though, fine!

OffTheBackOfALaurie · 11/05/2015 10:41

Fair enough!
I love Arlo and know a teen Arlo who is v cool.
It is a cool arty / trendy name round us - not one of the very popular 'fashionable' names which is why I don't think it will become dated - there isn't a massive surge, just a few which are noticeable because it is unusual.

I don't personally like Conrad, and find Miles a bity pompous / formal / stilted. But it is gaining favour so I am obviously not in tune on that one!

Rhubarbgarden · 11/05/2015 11:19

I know a forty year old Arlo who is slightly nonplussed at the sudden burst in popularity of his name.

Conrad is a great name.
