the name is Ember.
Does anyone know of a baby Ember (girl I would say).
Does anyone like it?

Sounds like a south African person saying Amber.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 06/05/2015 06:33

One of the 16 and Pregnant girls had a best friend called Ember, but maybe they made it up. Grin

Poor baby Ember would get a life time of

'Hi I'm Ember...'
'Amber?'
'Ember!'

I know an Ember. Not necessarily a name I'd choose though.

TanteRose · 06/05/2015 06:34

If you like it, use it babynamepondering.blogspot.jp/2013/06/ember.html?m=1

More likely to use for news kitten as I'm past my child rearing days. Just wondered if it was an actual name!

I know an adult Ember. I like it.

Grin Very cute (and real) name for a kitten!
Ham69 · 06/05/2015 07:08

If you're happy with the meaning, "A small piece of burning or glowing coal or wood in a dying fire", then go for it! Not sure I could though.

HapShawl · 06/05/2015 07:12

It's a bit like Cinderella I think

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/05/2015 07:29

I know someone who has given her baby the middle name Ember.

fiveacres · 06/05/2015 07:30

I know an Ember. Mum is lovely - bit hippyish:)

It's okay but I have a first name that sounds similar to another - it's frustrating constantly correcting people. I must admit I prefer Amber but Ember is definitely out there as a bona ride 'name' :)

Choccyhobnob · 06/05/2015 09:22

I really like it!

IWishIWishedLess · 07/05/2015 09:41

It's lovely for a kitten. Smile

Not sure that it's used for people an awful lot but I have seen it dotted around the place so I guess it could be called an actual name. Certainly not as popular as the very similar Amber though.

murphys · 07/05/2015 09:44

Teddy Grin I do agree with you on that one. I am sitting here saying both Ember and Amber, and you know what, yip they sound the same..... Grin

pilates · 07/05/2015 09:56

Ember, sorry no.
Amber is much better.

Lunastarfish · 07/05/2015 11:56

I'm with Teddy on this one!

I do like the name Amber though - could you go for that instead?

Jackieharris · 07/05/2015 12:00

I've seen it in baby name books but not irl but I count it as a real name.

murphys · 07/05/2015 12:07

I know two young ladies called Amber. Just knowing them is good enough reason for me to be put off the name. Shock

Both are madams of note.

Not to say that all Amber's are, but just in my experience Wink

NKfell · 07/05/2015 14:07

My instant thought was 'burning ember'...

Marisaurus · 07/05/2015 14:51

The City of Ember is a film - mostly about darkness. So she'd have to be a black/dark tabby/ grey kitten. Or maybe ginger.

FishCanFly · 08/05/2015 11:48

I did hear that name somewhere

spiderlight · 09/05/2015 20:39

I love it!

ag123 · 09/05/2015 20:50

I know an Ember-Lily , sister to Jace-May

MagentaVitus · 11/05/2015 19:31

Ember is a great name for a cat.

I'm about to get a lovely little kitten called Gideon. goes off on tangent

NigellasGuest · 13/05/2015 08:29

If you're happy with the meaning, "A small piece of burning or glowing coal or wood in a dying fire", then go for it! Not sure I could though.

I think the name has nice connotations - like a glowing piece of hope on the darkness. I think the point of Ember is the warmth it eminates rather than the darkness surrounding it
