Heard a woman in the park calling her dd (aged 4-5) by this name yesterday. Not keen myself, but is it due a revival?

Its not due for a revival just yet.

Got a few more years left before it comes back.

I hope not, not a classic name at all

It's a classic Irish name.

Ha, when I was pregnant with DD, I became convinced that Maureen was an a amazing name. I'd heard it pronounced like Marine on an American TV show and thought it sounded lovely. I pestered my OH for some time two months to consider it before realising it was hormone created madness. Unsurprisingly, we chose something else. I still have a soft spot for it though...

It's the Irish version of Mary isn't it?

Maybe the Royal baby might bring the name Maureen back. Princess Maureen. Lovely.

My DD's second middle name is Maureen. Named after DH's grandmother who raised him. He slipped it in when registering the birth Confused

I don't mention it to anyone except on official forms Grin

I taught a little girl last year called Reenie which was shortened from Maureen. She was named after her nan who died while her mum was pregnant with her. I always thought it was quite charming and really suited her.

I have more of an issue with all the hideous made-up American names coming through these days like Miley, Macey etc

I also have a best friend Maureen so I think it's lovely, she sometimes gets called Moe. I like Maura too.
