Heard a woman in the park calling her dd (aged 4-5) by this name yesterday. Not keen myself, but is it due a revival?

I also have a best friend Maureen so I think it's lovely, she sometimes gets called Moe. I like Maura too.

I taught a little girl last year called Reenie which was shortened from Maureen. She was named after her nan who died while her mum was pregnant with her. I always thought it was quite charming and really suited her.

I have more of an issue with all the hideous made-up American names coming through these days like Miley, Macey etc

My DD's second middle name is Maureen. Named after DH's grandmother who raised him. He slipped it in when registering the birth Confused

I don't mention it to anyone except on official forms Grin

Maybe the Royal baby might bring the name Maureen back. Princess Maureen. Lovely.

It's the Irish version of Mary isn't it?

Ha, when I was pregnant with DD, I became convinced that Maureen was an a amazing name. I'd heard it pronounced like Marine on an American TV show and thought it sounded lovely. I pestered my OH for some time two months to consider it before realising it was hormone created madness. Unsurprisingly, we chose something else. I still have a soft spot for it though...

It's a classic Irish name.

Tranquilitybaby · 01/05/2015 21:45

I hope not, not a classic name at all

Its not due for a revival just yet.

Got a few more years left before it comes back.

Me too, Hesterton. Much nicer than Kaitlyn/Caitlin, etc.

I actually really like Peggy for a little girl!! Full name would have to be Margaret which is a bit boring
It doesn't have to be short for Margaret. My daughter was intended to be a Peggy, but we went with Megan rather than Margaret as a full name. Except when she was born she was more of a Megan than a Peggy.
Also, my grandmother was Peggy (daughter's namesake) and it wasn't short for anything.

My best friend growing up was Maureen, I've always liked the name but my main problem with it is that it works directly into Moron for the mean kids.

I think we'll have to wait a bit longer for a Maureen revival.

But I bet in a few years (or maybe decades) it'll start to sound fresh and exciting to a new generation of parents, and then little Maureens will start appearing all over the place.

I actually really like Peggy for a little girl!! Full name would have to be Margaret which is a bit boring IMO but has so maybe lovely nicknames as listed above. Far better than Maureen, Joan, Jean etc.

Jane is a lovely name. It's much more classical than Joan or Jean.

I could see Marjorie and Margaret making a comeback - and there's lots of nice nicknames for Margaret - Meg, Daisy, Margot, Maggie, even Peggy will probably sound really cute to the next generation.

I think June is a hot name, with Jane and then Jean following behind. Joan is still languishing in mothballs around here though.

I have not heard of a Marjorie but I can see it having an appeal. If Flora can beat the margarine association, why not?

Marjorie is fab! It does sound like margerine though.

It'll be back, you just wait.

Confused No to Marjorie too.

I think Marjorie is really pretty. Perhaps it'll catch on via 'Game of Thrones' differently spelt Margaery. I had a great-aunt Marjorie who was known as Marnie.

I really like Eileen. I could see that coming back in a few years. I like Marjorie too.

I love Annie and Maggie. Maureen is dreary in my opinion, but not as bad as Doreen
