What are your thoughts on Joan as a name? I wasn't keen at first but dp is a fan and it is the name of my favourite singer (her of Woodstock/Bob dylan fame). It is growing on me!

Rather dreary.

Jennifersrabbit · 22/04/2015 16:49

Belongs to me as a middle name courtesy of my most wonderful grandma. It may be well out of fashion but Id rather like to see it revived :)

Elllimam · 22/04/2015 17:46

Also reminds me of greasy Joan, Joan baker and Enid blyton. No positive associations but actually quite a nice name when you say it.

I've been saying for years that Joan and Jean are on the comeback.
Prove me right!

claracluck1978 · 22/04/2015 17:54

Love it & had I had a daughter it would certainly have been a middle name if not a first. But then my Grandma was a Joan too & she meant the world to me so I may have a bias!

Devora · 22/04/2015 18:08

I like Joan, and much more than Jean.

NadiaWadia · 23/04/2015 04:47

Hmm... it's a name with history and everything, but very plain... I would prefer Jane, really.

Marcipex · 23/04/2015 10:01

And Joan of Arc, ghastly pictures in our history books , gave me nightmares for years.

Jane much nicer.

leccybill · 23/04/2015 10:10

I think Jane/Jayne is due a comeback.
If you were born late 70s/early 80s, your middle name is almost certainly Jane, Louise or Marie.

Not for me. I love All the old fashioned names, and some of them are still pretty sweet names for a child of today such as Freda Nancy Elsie Josie, Aggie Maggie, Betsy Kitty to nsme just a few but Joan it's not even cute or pretty.
Mind you not all parents are looking for cute sweet names
