DH and I have really struggled to find a boy's name we both really liked and we think we've found one...interested to know what people think? Ellison, nn Ellis with James as a middle name.

Sounds like Allison, I like Ellis though.

CoffeeAndTheThames · 11/04/2015 21:03

I like it. Not one I've heard before, but it's quite nice. A fan of Ellis as a nn.

Irishkez · 11/04/2015 21:03

Love it, love Ellis! Great choice.

PearsonSpecter · 11/04/2015 21:04

People will pronounce it Ellis-On or Elli-Sun. Also sounds like Alison. Nn Ellis sounds like Alice. For these reasons I am not a huge fan. I do really like Elliot.

LL0015 · 11/04/2015 21:04

I like.
Is it American?

Psipsina · 11/04/2015 21:06

I prefer Ellis. Smile

honeybeeplusone · 11/04/2015 21:13

Ellis makes me think of Elvis but maybe I'm pronouncing it wrong.

Bellejournee · 11/04/2015 21:20

Prefer Ellis or Elias (just throwing it in there). I do think Ellison James works well though :-)

Snappingcrayons · 11/04/2015 21:31

Ellister instead, to avoid the Alison mix up?

manicinsomniac · 11/04/2015 21:35

I've never heard it before but I like it. Really like Ellis too.

cattyf · 11/04/2015 21:35

See the Alison connection hadn't occurred to me. We have talked about just going with Ellis James. We like it because I am a big fan of Emily Bronte and her pen name was Ellis Bell.

I prefer Ellis James, think that's a lovely name

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 11/04/2015 21:37

Ellis James is fab! Not a fan of Ellison sorry.

florascotia · 11/04/2015 21:38

Your baby, your choice, and I really, really don't want to sound critical, but what's with the current fashion to give babies names ending 'son'?? Logically, it doesn't make sense, unless the father is Jack or Jen or Ellis etc, or unless Jackson, Jenson, Ellison etc is a family surname used as a first name.

And as others have said, it does sound rather like 'Alison'. (And the 'on' ending of that is a French feminine diminutive, just like 'Marion' for 'Marie'.)

Ellis is OK by itself. James is really nice.

Vijac · 11/04/2015 21:40

I think it's fine if you like it. Not any bad connotations at all and has quite a nice ring. Not traditional enough for me personally.

soundedbetterinmyhead · 11/04/2015 21:43

Does sound how I would imagine the queen pronounces 'Alison'! Still, it's your baby. I wouldn't personally because I'd want it either to be a family name, or to mean something significant to me.

HollyAndIvyTime · 11/04/2015 21:46

I don't think it sounds like Alison that much and, as he's a boy, it will pretty obviously not be Alison anyway! At least once he's last the baby stage! I think people are over-egging that problem.

I prefer traditional names, but there's nothing wrong with your choice and I don't dislike it at all.

florascotia · 11/04/2015 22:13

Ellis James is good!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/04/2015 22:16

Ellis = yes
Ellison = no, no, and thrice no

Sophronia · 11/04/2015 22:54

I think it's fine, I actually prefer it to Ellis.

Vijac · 11/04/2015 23:16

Ellis James is a strong name, better I think.

Smidge001 · 11/04/2015 23:21

I don't mind it and agree that the Alison connection probably isn't much of an issue.

Intrigued by those posters who worry Ellison sounds like Alison, but are fine with Ellis, which surely must sound just as much like Alice...?

OutragedFromLeeds · 12/04/2015 00:33

I don't like Ellison, it sounds a bit made-up.

I like Ellis and James though.

DianeLockhart · 12/04/2015 00:52

Ellis James is fab

HeirToTheIronThrone · 12/04/2015 00:55

It probably is very very niche, but there's a Welsh comedian called Elis James if that bothers you! I think they sound great together, but I am a bit of a fan...
