Vada, how would you say it and what other spellings would be acceptable?

I'm loving the name Vada at the minute but worries people would pronounce it Vahdah instead of Vaydah.

Other spellings I've thought of are:

Vayda
Vaida
Veda

What do you think?

I would definitely say Vada and I would think of Round the Horne and snigger.

nauticant · 24/03/2015 13:23

I'm glad I'm not the only Polari thinker Opopanax.

Bluestocking · 24/03/2015 14:17

Ooh Mr Horne! 'Ow lovely to vada your jolly old eek.

Hakluyt · 24/03/2015 14:21

I just came on to say "jolly old eek" expecting to be the only one!

OP - you really, really cannot do this. 99% of people will immediately think Darth. It would be a cruel thing to do.

ScaryMaryHinge · 24/03/2015 14:22

I was thinking Polari too, I can only hear the word said in Kennith Williams' voice.

MrsCosmopilite · 24/03/2015 14:31

Either Vay-der (because Ada is pronounced Ayder) which would make me think of the black clothes, strange facial coverings and heavy breathing of Darth OR
Var-der which then gets me on the Polari track of "Ooh! Vada the lallies on that Bona omi"

I think Veda works better if you are hoping to avoid confusion.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/03/2015 20:46

Vaeder

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/03/2015 20:48

Is that not the name of the little girl out of my girl

Bluestocking · 24/03/2015 20:56

We should start a "teach yourself Polari" thread. Or just set up Palonesnet?

Opopanax · 24/03/2015 21:17

Haha! Teach yourself Polari would be loads of fun.

manicinsomniac · 25/03/2015 00:21

I thought of My Girl too. I would pronounce Vay-da.

I always thought Vada Sultenfuss was spelt Veda though - it seems to make more sense to me somehow.

Lovely name. Darth didn't even cross my mind till I read the replies.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 25/03/2015 00:42

I know a Vada, she uses the shortened version of her full name which is Lavada. (luhvayduh)

DarylDixonsDarlin · 25/03/2015 00:43

Not that it ever stopped us referring to her as Darth, obviously Grin
