I'm northern. There's no r in beer

Bet I'm more northern than you and I say beerrrrr! Smile

My beautiful, clever, favourite Aunt was a Beatrice (and at 6ft tall known as Big B!) I absolutely love the name and over the moon it's back in fashion.

We would say Beet -riss (as uneducated weegies!) but a far more elegant way to say it would be Bay - ah - triss

Out of interest, how happy would you be if they couldn't be arsed to pronounce your/your child's name correctly?

Somewhere between beer-triss and be-a-triss... And I have whats called a standard London accent. When saying that name it comes out like both those. Friends of mine recently had a Beatrix.

Considering the huge array of beautiful and sonorous names for girls you could choose, I'm not sure why anyone would choose Beatrice, which isn't pronounced the way it looks it should be.

Taste is a strange thing.

I'd pronounce it 'beer-triss' too. In France I think it's something like 'bay-a-trees' which is quite pretty, but I don't find the UK pronunciation very attractive, so not a name I'd choose.
