Is Buster acceptable?

Just following on from the 'coolest boys name' thread where a few people mentioned Buster, which I (growing up outside of the UK) love ( d ), but which I thought was out of bounds due to its connotations in English speaking countries?

So: is it okay to name your boy Buster or is it still used as a disrespectful term for a boy/ man you don't like?

my names Buster and I consider it a tremendous name . People always remember it ‘I’ve met Buster’ ‘Buster Barnes, yes I’ve had the misfortune to meet him’. Whatever, always makes an impact. 😑

Reminds me of Rod Campbell's Buster books. Can't imagine it on anyone older than 3 I think.

I don’t think it had the connotations you are thinking of, I don’t think it’s insulting to someone to call them buster but I wouldn’t give it to a child. It sounds silly more than anything else.

Buster is a fine nick name for an endearing active child.
As a first name, for real - no.

What about Duster?

Ooops it made me think of Buster Keaton, but then it seems I have spent too much time with my grandmother. I would have assumed it was an American name (and a dated one at that) as I have never met a British boy/man called Buster...

Just realised this thread is 8 years old!

I was scrolling because my 4 year old son is Buster and we absolutely LOVE his name. He loves it too and we have never met another one. Yeah we could have gone with Jack or James or Robert- yawn- Buster is a great name full of character and charm.
