Hi everyone - this is my first ever Mumsnet post , so please go easy Wink . DC 2 is due in a couple of months and we're down to two names for a DD . I realise Ezra is usually a boys name, but we live very rurally and there aren't any boys with this name in the area . We LOVE it for a girl . Have also always loved Effie . Middle name will be Clementine .
Which- if you had to choose- do you prefer ? Thanks Smile

Effie always reminds me of Nick's sister from Heatbreak High. (Ugh, please don't anyone say that was before their time...)

Personally I don't agree that "Ezra is pretentious unless your religious", but I suppose it's all subjective.

Laquila · 08/02/2015 21:28

P.S. Has anyone suggested Ephigenia for Effie?? Love that name but don't think I'd have the balls!...

newbie6 · 08/02/2015 22:21

I'm clearly stupid as assumed Ezra was a girls name, love it! Personally more and more names are becoming unisex so you could just start a new trend ??

ClementineAndCordelia · 11/02/2015 23:03

Thanks newbie6- I think
We will :) and Laquila - yes it was on Heartbreak High that I first heard the name Effie all those years ago and loved it . It has stayed with me for over 20 years ?! Grin

Hi
I've just posted my first post too :)
I prefer Effie, Id prefer a longer name with Effie as a nn but can't actually think of any, which isn't overly helpful is it! Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2015 23:15

The conjunction of Ezra and Effie makes me think of Eppie in Silas Marner - nn for the biblical Hepzibah.

Laquila · 12/02/2015 08:09

I know a Hepzibah mm Hep - it really suits her.

RabbitSaysWoof · 12/02/2015 21:11

I like Effie and Ezra.
Out of interest how many girls need to be called a name before its unisex? I would have thought 1 maybe I'm wrong.
FWIW I went to college with a girl called James she is feminine, confident and as far as I could see perfectly happy with her name.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 13/02/2015 00:05

I have a niece called Effie and it's short for Elizabeth. I had never heard of the name before and would never have thought it was a nn for Elizabeth but it actually is!

Esra is a beautiful turkish girls name so I would go with that and that spelling. You will have a unique, beautiful girls name. Anybody who confuses it with the male name Ezra just correct them.

ClementineAndCordelia · 14/02/2015 14:53

Thanks WhiteSnowMoon1014 - this is exactly what we're thinking now - if baby is a girl . Now it's just a boy's name to sort !

'Out of interest how many girls need to be called a name before its unisex? I would have thought 1 maybe I'm wrong.'

Someone could call their daughter Roger but that wouldn't make Roger a unisex name.

whitesnowmoon1014 · 15/02/2015 16:01

We arent discussing a unisex name..Ezra is a boys name and Esra is a girls name.

AnnaNimitty · 15/02/2015 17:45

For the record Mick Jagger's grand-daughter has named her baby girl Ezra!
I have always liked the name Effie but don't like Euphemia. Alba is a lovely
name and was the original one chosen for Lord Byron's daughter
Allegra. In case you're wondering - I am a name geek!
