Ramona - fab or clunky?

Opinions on this name please. Fabulously unusual or rare for a reason? I don't know of any but I've seen it come up on here a few times and am strangely drawn to it.
If you have a Ramona what reaction do you get to her name?
Thanks!

I love it! Always have since the Ramona and Her Sisters children's books. But was vetoed by DH because it contains (he said) the word 'moaner'. Which might account for the rarity.

TheNewStatesman · 02/02/2015 01:33

It's nice--unusual but not weird.

GingerLDN · 02/02/2015 01:53

I'm not a fan because of Ramona Singer from RHONY she's a weird cookie. It's not an awful name it's just my opinion - is there a way to shorten it if your child ends up not liking it

FlossieTreadlight · 02/02/2015 02:12

Love it

mathanxiety · 02/02/2015 02:17

I associate it with middle aged waitresses in greasy spoons in Nebraska in the 1980s. I think it belongs with 'exotic' names Americans went for in the 1930s, like Laverne, Lenore, Melita, Donna, Gloria..

I prefer Renata or even Renee.

VashtaNerada · 02/02/2015 02:51

Love it! (Mainly because of the books)

CrispyFern · 02/02/2015 02:54

I like it actually.

HungerKunstler · 02/02/2015 02:56

I have a soft spot for the name because of the Ramona Quimby books, which I loved as a child but it is a little old-fashioned. It was on my 'if I had the guts' list for DD but I chickened out in the end!

What about Mona? Does that appeal?

catsofa · 02/02/2015 03:07

I like it.

Loved the Ramona Quimby books - recently made into a film which I haven't seen.

Met one in her early 20s and thought it was fab.

Is it an American name, or at least more common in America?

Josie314 · 02/02/2015 03:32

Fab!! In fact is now on my if I ever have a third child shortlist!

JapaneseMargaret · 02/02/2015 03:54

It's fab.

It wouldn't be on my list, but if I came across it on another child/adult, I'd think it was really cool.

Alya81 · 02/02/2015 04:02

Love it!! It isn't very unusual any more though. I know loads.

HoldenCaulfield80 · 02/02/2015 04:33

I have a Ramona Grin

People seem to like it - most haven't heard of Ramona Quimby (which is where I took it from) but there's a song from the 50s called Ramona by The Gaylords that everyone finds quite quickly.

ElmaTheElephant · 02/02/2015 04:37

LOvely

ElmaTheElephant · 02/02/2015 04:38

It's going to get very popular to the point of being common (in the sense of there being lots, not in the other way) though, like Ava.

Cliffdiver · 02/02/2015 04:42

I really like it, lovely name.

LollyLondon · 02/02/2015 09:35

Great name!

DilysDerwent · 02/02/2015 09:42

Love it

squoosh · 02/02/2015 10:50

I love it, think it's a gorgeously feisty name. I know a little one and she's super cute.

HesterShaw · 02/02/2015 10:52

I really like it! There are not enough Ramonas.

HesterShaw · 02/02/2015 10:53

Maybe my views are also clouded by Ramona Quimby!

cool name

TinchyOhYeah · 02/02/2015 11:53

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad it's generally liked, I think squoosh sums up how I feel about it perfectly with 'gorgeously feisty' Smile

I'm surprised a couple of you say you know a lot of them or it's going to be hugely common. I must move outside of those circles! I can't imagine it becoming the new Ava as it doesn't seem 'pretty' enough to have mass appeal. Interesting though
