Just curious as I would pronounce it
Eve - Lynn but when I was chatting to DM about girls names she said she would pronounce it Ev - Lynn.

Just spoke to my very elderly aunt in what she calls the "bi-weekly check she's still alive call". She's the one with friends called Evelyn. I checked with her and she said Ev - Lyn, definitely. I asked her if she was sure and she said she was. Then I asked her how she knew it was right.

"It just is!" Pause. "You don't say Ath - e - letics, do you?"

Me - "Um"

"And if you do, you shouldn't."

So, one of your aunt's friends pronounces her name Ev-Lin.

itssangriaoclock · 01/02/2015 12:33

I would say ever-Lynn.

Although, in my opinion if you are specific about the pronunciation then the name isn't for you. You don't want to spend the your daughters life correcting people.

I prefer Eve-Lyn and that's what sounds right to me.

I do more commonly hear Ever-Lyn though.

IsadoraQuagmire · 01/02/2015 12:46

Only heard Eve-lyn for boys. Eve-lyn, Ev-lyn OR Ever-lyn for girls. Depends on how the individual wants to pronounce it, they're all correct.

Trickydecision · 01/02/2015 15:35

Ev-a-lyn, Evvie for short. It is the name of DS's GF; she is Brazilian and it initially struck me (possibly irrationally) as an unusual name for someone from Brazil, but she told me it is quite popular there. I love it, mainly because she is so lovely herself.

MythicalKings · 01/02/2015 15:56

Yes, *Soup, she's Ev-lyn.

pommedeterre · 01/02/2015 16:05

Ev- Lin

That's how my aunt pronounced it.

pissedglitter · 01/02/2015 16:16

Ev Lin

StrangeGlue · 01/02/2015 16:17

I'd say Eve-Lynn but have also heard ev-Lynn and ev-e-Lynn

Valsoldknickers · 01/02/2015 16:24

Ev-lin here too. Not English either.
