Russian names for new baby?

esmea · 27/01/2015 20:39

Long story short- a friend of mine who was a single mum died in childbirth not long ago, I am the baby's godmother so she is living with me. Baby girl has no name yet. Her mother was Russian so I thought it would be nice to give her a Russian baby name.

So far I have these:
Anastasia
Evelina
Irina
Kristina

Does anyone else have any other name suggestions?

Alisa (?????)
Mariya (?????)
Anastasiya (?????????)
Viktoriya (????????)
Dariya (?????)
Arina (?????)

I have a colleague called Natalia who is Russian (also a Bond girl!) and her daughter is Natasha. Always loved Russian sounding names. Love Anastasia and Mariya.

Anna would work very nicely in both the UK and Russia. Also Natalia.

Are you "allowed" to name the baby?

iklboo · 27/01/2015 21:44

Another vote for Natalia.

What was the baby's Mum name? Have you thought about using that or a short/longer version of it?
