J Names. really? do most naughty boys name start with J?

Just saw this mentioned on thread - names you irrationally dislike.

Is this something lots of you have experienced?

How about the names below:

Joshua
Jaden
Jacob
Jackson
John
Jason
Julian

If so when did this start to happen? I'm sure John isnt associated with bad boys.

The only Jason I've ever met is my uncle and he most certainly was a naughty boy in his school days. . Lovely as an adult man though.

John and james are well behaved. Jayden isn't.

I find 'c' names more of a problem:
Connor
Callum

Never taught a well behaved one. Also children whose names are spelt oddly:
Emah (Emma)
For example. Shudder.

Name your child James and you might as well give up parenting him altogether

I mean he's bound to be in a young offenders unit before he's learnt to wipe his own arse

It isn't that the names make a child more naughty - just that they did a survey of teachers and certain names had certain connotations attached.

I have a son with a J name. Last week we got an email from school praising his behaviour and attitude!

Julian as a naughty boy name made me chuckle a bit. A posh naughty boy perhaps.

As for the others, I didn't go to school with any of that name and haven't come across any as an adult yet so can't comment.

Jasper is on my boys list.

Juvie is probably the naughtiest boy in the class.

It's really not good if it's a true that a teacher would look at a list of names and if they are modern, or spelt unusually, or sound like surnames etc they would assume the child was a bad lot.

Julian speaks to working class adults with contempt, "becoming more icily polite the ruder he gets" (may be slightly paraphrasing here) according to Ms Blyton.

James is a delight, it's Jamie you have to watch out for!

I'm sure I read that a lot of criminals are called Jimmy.

Could it just be that there are a lot of popular boys names that begin with J, so you can manipulate the stats to say whatever you want.

Nope, know lovely examples of all those names and even if I didn't, as a professional I'd not be such a dick as to make swathing statements about any name.

Dh has a J name and is a VERY naughty boy

A lot of people make judgements about names, Katie Hopkins didn't invent the concept. Usually people judge the parents rather than the child though.

If you've never met a well behaved Connor or Callum or Jayden or Emah or whatever else, then I'd say you're probably producing a self-fulfilling prophecy in your class. What incentive is there for children to behave when their teacher has already decided that they won't, and probably jumps on anything that might be interpreted as 'naughtiness'? It works the other ways, with all those children you assume to be well behaved too, except they get positive reinforcement.
