We are looking for a strong and fairly unusual name for DD (but not too out there). Current ideas are Maxima and Phoenix. Any suggestions along the same lines please?

Polka, how do you say Mnemosyne? Nem-o-sin-e? it's nice. Where is it from? I can well imagine the nightmares of having to spell it out and explain it for people though!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/12/2014 17:11

That's right.

She's the personification of memory (like in the word mnemonic) and the mother of the muses in mythology.

squoosh · 10/12/2014 17:38

Holy smoke, Mnemosyne makes Persephone seem like the most ordinary name in the world!

OnlyLovers · 10/12/2014 17:56

'mother of the muses'. I like that. Smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/12/2014 17:58

It's funny isn't it? Most people wouldn't bat an eyelid at Penelope, and most people know Hermione now. But Persephone would get raised eyebrows, and ones like Mnemosyne or Calliope are more unusual still.

Yet they all have the same structure and feel to them.

Just don't mix a Roman name and Greek middle name (or vice versa), lest you offend the classicists.... ;)

My cousins daughter is Callisto.

My daughter is Claudia. I also love Minerva and Lydia.

Luckystar82 · 11/12/2014 17:47

I love the concept. Just research the goddess carefully before you choose.

I love the name Hera, but she wasn't very nice, so I wouldn't choose it.

CruCru · 11/12/2014 17:48

Antonia
Augusta
Cecilia
Drusilla
Flavia
Octavia

For some reason I don't like Greek names as much. I think it's because I like names that end in "a".
