Pretty set on a girl's name, opinions?

So my fiancé and I are getting married in a few months, planning to start ttc at the end of next year. We have talked names of course and I think we're pretty set on Genevieve for a girl but a few people have turned their noses up. What do you think?

But, please, don't tell anyone in RL, until the baby is born. It's hard enough to agree on the name between the two of you, never mind trying to please every other person in the world!

My list of names before I was pregnant went totally out of the window once I actually was. I would say don't worry about it until it happens, then you have 9 months of fun connecting with your baby and finding its name!

Lovely. I have a cousin with this name - it was considered highly unusual when she was born 18 years ago but the family got used to it very quickly and she is generally known as Gena. Try not to allow yourself to be too influenced by the opinion of other's as you will never get a consensus. Feel happy that you and your DP agree with each other.

I think it's a lovely name. But mostly I think you're just a bit premature! You may be getting funny looks not because of the name itself but because you're running a name past people (a year!) before you're even ttc!

I get what you're saying Gilraen, believe me I'd be the same if that was the case but it was during a lighthearted conversation with my parents and sister that it came up. They were asking about the future, babies and we got talking about baby names. That was when I mentioned the name and they all kinda looked like this haha

Really glad we decided to wait before ttc, plenty of time to enjoy being together and working these things out

I guess in French it would be Je-ne-viève. But in English?!

That's not to say you can't fantasise about names by the way just that asking people's opinions on a name at this point is somewhat unusual.

Yeah, it really started to come up after the wedding announcement and after a few people in the family had babies and gave them quite unusual names. I couldn't believe that my mam pulled a face after all the awful names she suggested but I suppose it's all subjective

I think the "English" way to say it is Zhon-vee-ev (isn't that what it is in the film?). I agree it's a lovely time but the lack of pronunciation consistency would bug me.

It's on our list! We would nn Ginny, maybe Jenny. It's beautiful! If she did get picked on (which I don't think she would) then the nns are very safe.

Itwas on our list and at three days old dd was pretty much Genevieve but people were shortening it to gen/jen Jenny, which I hate so we had a rethink.

Lovely name just be sure you like all the shortenings!

Perfectly nice name and adaptable to many kiddy names but a high court judge too. Possibly less likely to be the name of the defendant in front of the judge, but that's no bad thing!

I assume she's be Jen/Jenny or ev /eve or even vivi ( quite like that) but the nicknames are endless.

Zhon-vee-ev sounds painfully pretentious. I would assume an Anglo Genevieve would pronounce it as jenna-veev.

I think the French pronunciation and the English 'Jenna-Veev' as mentioned by squoosh are both lovely. I quite like Vivi or even Jenna for a nn so not too bothered about people shortening the name.

Love that name. Knew a lovely girl called that at school, a million years ago.
