No, they don't go. Harlow is horrendous and Emmeline is lovely. Anyone anywhere near London/the South will just think of the place, which isn't very nice!

fancyacupoftea · 19/10/2014 20:52

They really don't go. I really don't like Harlow at all - Emmeline is such a pretty name though.

wellnowthenmardybum · 19/10/2014 20:56

Any suggestions for names which do go?

I don't like Harlow as a name at all.

If she likes surnamey names, Marlowe (like the playwright) might be one for her to consider?

moxon · 20/10/2014 06:08

Because Brooklyn isn't bad enough. :(

TheTravellingLemon · 20/10/2014 12:06

Ha ha. I came on this thread to offer advice about the Princess Alexandra maternity - where I had my baby! It's in Harlow. As you were...

sillymillyb · 20/10/2014 12:16

A friend has a baby called Harlan - don't know if that is much better mind to be honest (I always want to finish the name by putting a "d" on the end!)

LaurieFairyCake · 20/10/2014 12:22

Harlow is a very unattractive place in East Herts

It's not a name - Harlan is albeit American and the rapist in Thelma and Louise

TaurielTest · 20/10/2014 12:22

Makes me think of that Margot Asquith / Jean Harlow quote about the t being silent.

TaurielTest · 20/10/2014 12:23

Arlo?

Only1scoop · 20/10/2014 12:26

Awful

SavoyCabbage · 20/10/2014 12:27

Don't you mean Hawful onescoop?Grin

Didn't someone famous call, their baby Preston?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 20/10/2014 13:17

Marlowe is gorgeous! Harlow just makes me think of the town. But YES to Marlowe. What a lovely name.

Babayaggatheboneylegged · 20/10/2014 16:14

It's a new town near Stansted Airport. I think Nicole Richie may be aware of the connection though, because I think that's what she named her daughter. I wouldn't do it though!

Only1scoop · 20/10/2014 16:18

Savoy indeed

Hawful

How about Barlow instead....

moxon · 20/10/2014 16:32

Barlow/Baylor. Hohum.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 20/10/2014 16:32

My husband is from Harlow (in North Essex, incidentally, not East Herts) and I think I can say without doubt that if you had been there, you wouldn't name anyone after it. Horrendous!

Only1scoop · 20/10/2014 16:36

Baylow Bodrum Jeannie Grace boo boo....

Only1scoop · 20/10/2014 16:36

Sorry Op

IneedAwittierNickname · 20/10/2014 16:38

Don't like Harlow although love Emmeline.

I don't like Marlowe either as that also makes me think of the place (even with the added e)

PrimalLass · 20/10/2014 16:43

Awful chavvy Sorry.

NadiaWadia · 20/10/2014 17:15

Don't like - it's one of those surnamey names which I mainly don't care for, with a few exceptions. As well as that, isn't it mostly used for girls?

I like Emmeline.

jaundicedoutlook · 20/10/2014 23:00

Colchester?

perrinelli · 20/10/2014 23:03

Harley?

SanityClause · 20/10/2014 23:06

That's what I thought of, too, puddock.

She was great for a bitchy quote! Grin
