I need inspiration, I like the following but am not sold on any; Rose, Minnie, Meg, Nell, Rowan and Elizabeth (with nn Ettie, Etta, Effie or Bess).

If I like the above what else might I like?

The names Etta and Effie are both lovely in their own right. I called one of my kids the full name, but he's always been known as the nickname and now, his "real" name is superfluous. I don't think he will ever use it.

Surfsup1 · 15/10/2014 23:22

TheWholeOfTheSpoon I think that really depends on the name though - names like Tom or Harry are totally fine as they are, but I always think that nns ending with "ie" are best left as nns on boys. Fine when they're little, but they lack gravitas as an adult.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 15/10/2014 23:25

My DdS name is in your list OP, and names I also considered are

Kate
Olive / Liv
Erin
Matilda
Alice
Martha

moxon · 15/10/2014 23:43

Bess is underused as a nn for Elizabeth, so I would pick that.

wattlegirl · 16/10/2014 05:57

I have always loved the names Rose and Elizabeth, but understand if you are not completely sold on them.

If you like Etta and Ettie, have you considered the name Henrietta?

And now for a really lovely name I suggest.........wait for it now. It is..........

VIENNA!!

How can you not love it?

moxon · 16/10/2014 07:38

Oh, so true! I love a Vienna! With a bit of tomato sauce and mustard in a nice fresh bun, accompanied by a good Austrian beer in the other hand.

That is what you meant, right?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 16/10/2014 08:50

I love Minnie, it is my DD's (completely unrelated to her actual name!) nickname. However apparently in some areas it is slang for female genitalia Blush

saffronwblue · 16/10/2014 08:51

Elspeth

StoneFoxMama · 16/10/2014 09:53

Or if you like Etta and Vienna, how about Vienetta...tasty!

moxon · 16/10/2014 10:01

Oh stone

StoneFoxMama · 16/10/2014 10:15

Sorry moxon maybe the world's not ready for little Viennetta's yet. (Or ever)

Icedfinger · 16/10/2014 10:31

Ken Grin if it's too vanilla you could go for Araminta (nn Minty) Viennetta.

On a serious note, Margot is stunning and I think of Fonteyne before The Good Life.

KenDodddied · 16/10/2014 11:26

I think you may be a naming genius Stone, Araminta has it all; the wiff of pony club but when we're hanging with the proles Minty will be perfect.

Kitty could be short for Katia if you are not keen on Katherine
