So what alternatives to Jasper can we use for a boy?

We've not found out what we're having. Our daughter. has a very unusual name but not sure we'd choose something that different again.

Other names that have been considered and vetoed for one reason or another are Rowan, Ernest, Frederick, Tobin. Girls names I think we're sorted for (although wouldn't say no to any good suggestions).

Did they know you were planning on using that name? Cant you still use it?

Rupert?

ImperialBlether · 01/10/2014 19:47

If it's a boy, call him Louis. It's the coolest boys' name there is. Grin

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 01/10/2014 19:48

Julian. Julius. Caspian. Magnus. Oscar. Django.

Floggingmolly · 01/10/2014 19:49

Good for them. Jasper is a dog's name...

PacificDogwood · 01/10/2014 19:49

Your child will have every expectation to outlive the dog Grin

Call him (if it turns out to be a boy) Jasper, your parents dog can get used to another name (rescue dogs get renamed all the name - it really is not a problem).

Have you told your parents about this dilemma?

scarletforya · 01/10/2014 19:50

Kacpar!

Wishfulmakeupping · 01/10/2014 19:51

Maybe see if they will change it if you really love it.
Rupert is nice. What about Willfred, Rafe and Victor?

CheeseEqualsHappiness · 01/10/2014 19:53

I did this to my sister by accident. I tried to rename my cat but failed. They had the same name for a few years and It was an honest mistake. Split with ex so we don't see the cat anymore. My sister was really angry with me but I honestly didn't know they wanted the name!

Leeds2 · 01/10/2014 19:54

Roman. Casper.

PacificDogwood · 01/10/2014 19:55

Jasper is so NOT a typical dog's name Shock

Kasper is a good suggesting IMO - but do please spell it with an 'S' unless you are Polish

heebiegeebie · 01/10/2014 19:55

Close call, IMO. Jasper has 'bully me' written all over it.

Castlemilk · 01/10/2014 19:56

Call him Jasper Fido and use his middle name until the dog dies?

Castlemilk · 01/10/2014 19:56

Or, Balonz! Very underused these days Wink

HoneyDragonMumshnet · 01/10/2014 19:57

Just call the baby Jasper if you have a boy.

PacificDogwood · 01/10/2014 19:57
Grin
Bartlebee · 01/10/2014 19:58

Jasper was one of our favourites for ds2 but we also got the 'dog's name' comments, several times.

But I have made the same comment to a friend who thought about calling her ds Toby..

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/10/2014 20:00

And the problem with sharing a name with a pet is??......

Wouldn't bother me. shares name with several dogs

LittleRedDinosaur · 01/10/2014 20:01

I second Balonz.. but on a more personal note I was given the same name as my grandparents dog. Seems strange now but I thought it was pretty cool as a child. If you really love Jasper then I'd just go for it- most people won't know the dog.

CornChips · 01/10/2014 20:01

Rupert?
barnaby?
benedict
Jago
Orlando

Personally I love Toby but short for Tobermory not Tobias.

Jonah?
Josiah?

LittleRedDinosaur · 01/10/2014 20:02

(Although I am, perhaps, just trying to normalise my parents' oddness)

MyFirstName · 01/10/2014 20:20

Raphael?

LittleLostRoeDeer · 01/10/2014 20:41

The dog's been around for a few years, so unfortunate it has now become a dog's name for me too. I told my mum we loved the name years ago, but she absolutely swears I didn't. Never mind...

I really like Toby but my Nan had a dog called that Grin More importantly, partner hates it. Barney / Barnaby has also been ruled out.

Woody was the frontrunner until Dp announced this evening he's completely gone off it... and our daughter's actual name as well! Feeling rather hormonal today, and this isn't helping.

I'm not suggesting Balonz, he'd probably go for that. He's suggested Tenzing in the past... Along with Edmund, Scott and Hillary!

Ah. A Preexisting Dog - that's somewhat different.

Do you like any of the names suggested here?

CaptainSinker · 01/10/2014 21:13

Please not Tobin. That's a serial killer.

Jasper better as a dogs name!

CaptainSinker · 01/10/2014 21:15

How about Victor, Caspar or Christian?
