Noa for a girl

I have always loved the name Noah for if I have a boy but it's become so popular and I would really like to give my child a name that is a bit more unusual so they aren't in a class/workplace with other people who have the same name. I recently heard of Noa being a girls name... love it or hate it?

I love it, was my number one choice for a girl.....but we are having a boy so back to the baby names book for us.

PillForgettingIdiot · 30/09/2014 20:55

It looks unfinished without the H to me.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/09/2014 22:06

It's beautiful for a boy. I love the Noa spelling btw. However there are so many pretty names for little girls out there why give her a boys name.

banterbus · 30/09/2014 22:13

Thanks all, I suggested it to DH and he wasn't too impressed so not sure it will be a contender!

LOVE it!

So much nicer than Noah for a boy.

Pikkewyn · 30/09/2014 22:16

I wanted it for DD2 but DH used his veto on it :(

starlight1234 · 30/09/2014 22:21

sorry sounds like a boys name to me

Zippyandbungle · 30/09/2014 22:28

I really like it. Dd1 has a friend named Noa and she is delightful.

HerbieRidesAgain · 30/09/2014 23:04

Is it still pronounced Noah? I had a perfume called Noa once and didn't know how to pronoune it :)

Hakluyt · 30/09/2014 23:05

Absolutely fine. So long as you're happy to call a boy Rosamund.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 30/09/2014 23:10

Yes, I like it lots. Very pretty and unusual.

zipzap · 30/09/2014 23:12

I think Noa is a Welsh girl's name - I had a boy Noah and my mum told some of her relatives (her cousins etc who live in the depths of Wales) that her grandchild was Noah - I then received several pink/girl presents for Noa from them! Grin

I am obviously biased but I like both Noa for girls and Noah for boys. Having said that, I was somebody who chose the latter when it was well outside the top 100 names list and doesn't like the fact that it has become quite so popular - but if it had been as popular then as it is now I'm not sure I would have chosen it. I think Noa for girls is much more unusual - and just as nice. Just because people don't know that it's a valid name in its own right isn't a reason for not choosing it!

BunnyLebowski · 30/09/2014 23:40

Nope Hakluyt not the same at all.

Noa is a legit female name and an old testament biblical character.

Rosamund is not a boy's name.

minkah · 30/09/2014 23:44

Oh wow, it's beautiful! I didn't realise Noa was a girls name. It's stunning. Absolutely love it.

BackforGood · 30/09/2014 23:55

Think it would cause an awful lot of confusion for her, as most people, upon hearing 'Noah/Noa' would think it were a boy.
I would avoid it for that reason.

minkah · 01/10/2014 00:01

No, I don't think so at all. Noa is very feminine.

It's good if a lot of people avoid using the name, anyhow. Wink

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/10/2014 00:03

It's a lovely name

BunnyLebowski · 01/10/2014 00:06

I agree Minkah. It sounds far more feminine than masculine.

Explains why I've always found it a bit wet for a boys name but absolutely adore Noa for a girl.

squeak2392 · 01/10/2014 01:26

I love it :) Tbh it does sound like a unisex name, although I love it on a boy too.

JuniorMumber · 01/10/2014 01:48

Never considered it for a girl, it's beautiful.

HowsTheSerenity · 01/10/2014 01:52

It's also a Fijian name.

minniemaus · 01/10/2014 06:49

Noa is a lovely feminine sounding name!

I don't like Noah for a boy.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 01/10/2014 06:51

Hmm I'm not sure

I do however love both Nova and Nola

Panzee · 01/10/2014 06:53

I know a family with Hebrew names and one of the girls is Noa.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 01/10/2014 07:03

I like Noor which is the same name but the Arabic version.
