We love the name Ophelia , but unsure due to negative Shakespeare connotations?

Would appreciate options.
Also love Octavia but would that sound odd for our seventh child. ( this will be our last)

No.

Octavia is better.

SoonToBeSix · 17/09/2014 14:36

I do slightly prefer Octavia but do you think people would find it odd calling our seventh child a name that means eight?

I really like it, but it's quite a strong name, and does have enduring associations.

(Hey non nonny, nonny, hey nonny)

NuggetofPurestGreen · 17/09/2014 14:46

No. Most people wouldn't notice I'd say.

grufallosfriend · 17/09/2014 14:58

I really like Ophelia and know one whose nickname is Effie - cute for a little girls imo.

Octavia is beautiful too and I wouldn't worry too much about its meaning.

RedToothBrush · 17/09/2014 15:01

Octavia is a current car model.

PandaNot · 17/09/2014 15:06

I know a 4yr old Ophelia. Gorgeous name but it turns out it doesn't really suit her. She's very much a tomboy, get muddy and in trouble kind of girl. Her parents wish they hadn't picked something quite so girly.

SoonToBeSix · 17/09/2014 15:14

I didn't know Octavia was a car , hopefully most people won't. It's not like Mercedes.
Effie is cute as a nickname.
We already have five girls with middle names so it gets really difficult to pick names we both like.
Have settled on Henry if it's a boy but hoping the Royal baby isn't called Henry as I am due just a couple if weeks earlier.

Ophelia is lovely. Octavia not so much.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/09/2014 15:16

Octavia is the name of a skoda model I think.

reddaisy · 17/09/2014 15:18

I like both but prefer Ophelia.

MrsLettuce · 17/09/2014 15:21

They're lovely names but I'm afraid I share your doubts.

Cordelia

Cornelia

Minerva

Legionofboom · 17/09/2014 15:23

I used to really like the name Ophelia until someone said that it sounds like 'A feel of yer...' and now I can't hear the name without thinking of that.

I don't think the Octavia meaning eight thing matters does it? Especially if you prefer it.

MrsBungle · 17/09/2014 15:23

No to ophelia. I don't mind Octavia but it is a scoda car.

Cordelia is lovely.

HerRoyalNotness · 17/09/2014 15:26

Ophelia is lovely and was on my list for DC2. Octavia sounds too harsh in comparison

SaucyJack · 17/09/2014 15:36

I have an Ophelia- so it's a yes from me.

We call her toad for short.

SoonToBeSix · 17/09/2014 15:38

Love the NN saucy.

Yes, Octavia is a skoda car, IMO it's a bit like calling your daughter Corsa.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 17/09/2014 15:51

If someone told me their name was Octavia, my initial reaction would be to ask if she was the eighth child. I love the name though.

How abou Septima as a more truthful alternative Hmm

Fionafifi333 · 17/09/2014 16:01

I'm not a fan of names with tragic connotations personally

Cressida? Cassia? Miranda?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 17/09/2014 17:29

Know what you mean Stokey - I met a woman called Leda before, very negative connotations.

Octavia doesn't have any does it?
