We love the name Ophelia , but unsure due to negative Shakespeare connotations?

Would appreciate options.
Also love Octavia but would that sound odd for our seventh child. ( this will be our last)

Umm Septima doesn't have the same ring to it.
Thankfully my last name is not bum Grin
Mothership I do need to change my name I meant to change it six months ago when the twins were born. Although I would have had to have changed it again now so I have saved time.

I love Ophelia, but do pointed out I would have shortened it to Ophie, and I wasn't sure if 'oaf' was what I wanted to associate with my child.

I love Ophelia, beautiful name. No one gets put off by Juliet or Cordelia being tragic heroines so I don't see why Ophelia should be a no no.

Kaekae · 21/09/2014 22:57

I think it is ok, it doesn't wow me but as I don't hear it often that's a positive.

The Shakespearean issues wouldn't bother me. The teasing issue would - on that note, don't use Fanny as a middle name.

I think Ophelia has many drawbacks, and Octavia too.

I prefer
Penelope
Letitia
Felicity
Flavia
Cecilia
Calista
Pernilla
Honora
Sybilla

SoftSheen · 22/09/2014 10:37

How about:

Oriana
Ottilie/Ottila
Odette
Dorothea
Cressida
Persephone

Butterpuff how could her parents DO that!!???

Surfsup1 · 22/09/2014 10:57

I met an Ophelia once but didn't know realise for quite some time that that was her name because she was known to all her friends as Tits.
I think she'd just found that embracing the teasing was the only way to get past it!

Butterpuff · 22/09/2014 11:08

Ha, ha. I hope they just didn't think about it.

I love this name, I think it is really beautiful and very nearly called our daughter Ophelia. I was a little bit gutted that we didn't go for it when I read that Dave Grohl called his daughter that name.

The reason we didn't use it is because of the 'a feel ya' bum and also, Pead - 'Ophelia' teasing opportunities.

I'm really happy with the name we did chose but I am still a little sad we didn't use Ophelia. If you love it, go for it!!
