I am unashamedly starting another baby name thread Wink promise this is the last one (today anyway)

Another poster suggested Mabel to me, it's a name I LOVE but had discounted because a few years ago had a dog we called Mabel. However said dog only lived a couple of months and very few people were even aware what we had called the dog.

Is this a deal breaker? I'm starting to think not so much! Why oh why did I use a name I love on an animal knowing that we were ttc?

Apart from the above, do you like the name? Do you think it goes with big brother Eli?

I really dislike Mabel sorry

Only1scoop · 16/09/2014 15:02

I quite like it

theendoftheendoftheend · 16/09/2014 15:02

Yes goes brilliantly with Eli, and having had a dog named it previously wouldn't put me off at all.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2014 15:02

There was a Blue Peter dog named Mabel.

HuggleBuggleBear · 16/09/2014 15:03

I love the name Mabel

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:03

I guess my choice in names always tends to be marmite, I have a feeling Mabel may also fall into this category!

Was this blue Peter dog a recent thing or from yonks ago? I'm not from England so never watched blue Peter when young!

I don't think it sounds very nice or feminine. Love your usernames though!

Only1scoop · 16/09/2014 15:09

Also love your user names what a beauty

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:13

Gosh evasmummy if anything I thought it was a very girly name, its amazing the way people get different vibes from the same name! Smile

Not a fan of Mabel, sorry. It's a little too old sounding for me.

squoosh · 16/09/2014 15:15

I can barely express how much I dislike it.

pregnantpause · 16/09/2014 15:16

My eldest dd shares her name with my first dog- doesn't matter at all .

Legionofboom · 16/09/2014 15:18

I also really dislike Mabel. I don't like the sound or how it looks written down.

MirandaGoshawk · 16/09/2014 15:23

It doesn't matter that it used to be a dog's name.

I think Mabel is a lovely name for a little girl, and can see Mable as a super-hip teenager! People grow into their names and become that name - people who don't like the name now will just get used to it being your DD's name. (Not explaining it very well but in a nutshell - go for it!)

MirandaGoshawk · 16/09/2014 15:23

Mabel, not Mable Blush

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:36

Squoosh you hate everything I come up with Grin

I adore it

CordeliaClementine · 16/09/2014 15:39

Well actually I think you loved Jude!! Ah doesn't matter that's why I'm looking for opinions to hear the good and the bad!

The sadly deceased dog is no reason at all not to give your child a name you love, no.

Mabel is fab! A very capable sounding name with plenty of cute nickname possibility should you be so inclined.

Clarabum · 16/09/2014 15:47

I LOVE MABEL, if I had another girl I would call her Mabel, it was on my last name list but ended up with a Martha. Another Marmite name.

Chewbecca · 16/09/2014 15:53

Love it and knew a very cute little Mabel about 10 years ago.

I have only had girl cats and boy humans but would certainly have re-used the cats name for a child, it was indicative that I loved the name plus the child would keep the name right into the future.

I think Mabel is really, really ugly. It's not a nice sounding name and it's definitely better for a dog.
