Alexyia Mai??

Thanks for any input I'm really struggling. Middle name has to be Mai :-)

I'd go for Alexia spelling.

MrsHathaway · 09/09/2014 14:37

Why the extra y in it? What's wrong with Alexia?

I like all the -lex- names for girls generally - Alexandra, Alexa, Alexia.

If you like it, don't look it up in a dictionary.

WaffleWiffle · 09/09/2014 14:39

Is it pronounce it?

Initial thoughts from me on it written is that it looks "harsh".

WaffleWiffle · 09/09/2014 14:39

Is it pronounce it? How is it pronounced?

MrsRuffdiamond · 09/09/2014 14:40

The name sounds fine, but are you sure you want a 'y' and an 'i' in the spelling? (May have been a typo?) I would go with either Alexya or Alexia.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 09/09/2014 14:40

I don't like those names together tbh. Too many "ia" sounds.

How do you pronouce Mai? Is it "My", or May"?

Alexa May sounds/looks better.

Heels99 · 09/09/2014 14:41

Alexia is lovely. Alexyia is a waste of a Y and looks silly, will constantly be spelled wrongly

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 09/09/2014 14:42

Alexia not Alexyia- I'm not sure if that is a valid variation on the spelling or a made up one, but I'd assume most people would spell it Alexia and you and your dd having to correct them forever more.

Same with Mai is it pronounced May or sound more like My, the only time I have come across Mai was a lady from Thailand and she said it was pronounced My not May.

AdorableAbbie · 09/09/2014 14:56

The Name is fine, but not the spelling!

NewEraNewMindset · 09/09/2014 14:57

Alexa May is lovely

Meirasa · 09/09/2014 14:58

Mai is pronounce May, it was my grandmothers name. Alexiya is a name I promise :-) Its a version of Alexia which we really liked but the spelling of it reminded us of where we met and married.

Loving the comment about it being a waste of a Y ;-)

DuelingFanjo · 09/09/2014 15:00

In wales it is pronounced My.

Purpleroxy · 09/09/2014 15:02

If you say it's a name, I'm sure you're correct. But people will spell it incorrectly her whole life. Even if you spell it Alexia, people will probably call her Alexa accidentally so I would just keep it simple with Alexa. You could use the longer version as a nickname if you wanted.

Meirasa · 09/09/2014 15:04

This is really helpful, thank you :-)

Please don't let people put you off because she will have to spell it out to everyone for the rest of her life.

I have a very normal name with a rare spelling and I love it, teachers and interviewers remembered me and it really isn't that often that I have to keep spelling it out to people.

If you love the name use it!

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 09/09/2014 15:20

Loving the comment about it being a waste of a Y ;-)

Of course. Do you no know that letters must be rationed :). Hence why southern pronunciations such as "baarth" and "marster" are all wrong...

Like the name btw.

MissWimpyDimple · 09/09/2014 15:22

Looks like the OP was a typo. (OP wants alexiya not alexyia.

Not keen on the Y. Pointless, but it's your child! I do love Alexa though.

manicinsomniac · 09/09/2014 15:23

I like the name but agree that it should be Alexia or, at a push, Alexya. Not the i and the y.

maggiethemagpie · 09/09/2014 15:57

Well you asked for opinions, so I'd say it's a no vote from me, especially with the complicated spelling and the hyphenated Mai. I know you said it has to be Mai but I personally think May looks a lot better.

Alexia on it's own without the superfluous y is not too bad, could nn lexi.

maggiethemagpie · 09/09/2014 15:58

Sorry I think I hallucinated a hyphen when there was none!

NickNacks · 09/09/2014 15:59

Bearing in mind you yourself have spelt it two different ways, that doesn't tell you anything? Smile

Sophronia · 09/09/2014 16:01

I don't like the Alexiya spelling, Alexia is much better. Did you grandmother really spell May as Mai? I only like that if it's pronounced 'My'.

OwlCapone · 09/09/2014 16:02

Alexia is a nice name. Alexyia looks dreadful. As does Alexiya as it seems even you can't spell it Wink. Unless you have the appropriate foreign surname to go with it, I would avoid it.

loudarts · 09/09/2014 16:02

I like it

curiousgeorgie · 09/09/2014 16:05

The name is nice... The spelling not so much..
