DH really likes it, I'm not sure. We already have Frances and like Miriam, Dominic, Joseph and maybe Beatrice (expecting twins, don't know the sex).

I don't like the 'lair' sound, it reminds me of words like hairy and lairy. I prefer Clara.

I can not say i am in love with this name, but it's ok!

It would probably be unusual am

Sorry, ...unusual amongst her peers. It's a little plain for my taste but I can understand the appeal.

I think its a decent name. Sounds peaceful and calm. You should go for it if you like it.

Gorgeous name and it would go really well with Frances.

I used those names as MNs for two of the DDs so am biased. The reason I chose them, apart from the fact that they are family names, is that the DDs could opt to use them if they didn't fancy their first names.

I think they are classic names, feminine without being frilly.

I love Miriam, Joseph, Dominic and Beatrice too.

It's a bit ... wafty. Sounds like an incomplete noise rather than a word or a name.

I like the name-didn't think it would be popular here because it was so widely used late 70s, early 80s. Think its very classy and calm -sounding.

Thanks all [flower] It's really growing on me, but we won't decide for sure until we see what we have!

Never heard it described as chavvy before!

I like it although it's the Claire spelling I like. Really don't like Clare or Clara (no offence to anyone, I know a lovely Clare and a lovely Clara, just not fond of the names!)

I don't think it goes with Frances though. I'd go for Beatrice.

My mother is a Clare, my aunt is a Frances and my niece is a Frances Clare. Nice names and go together just fine. I like Miriam too and Beatrice (I have a cousin Beatrice).

Claire is nice. it is what your child will feel that matters. and she is far more likely to be one of three Claras or Florence or Beatrice or whatever than Claire's.Smile

There seem to be scores and scores of 40-somethng Claires about so I'd imagine it would be pretty unusual for a child today.

Beautiful name. Reminds me of County Clare in Ireland. Not keen on Clara

I like it. On the same vein of 1970s and 80s names I also like Laura.

Report

I like Laura too

My names Clare, and I hate it,never brought me any problems, but I don't think many people like their own names do they. However I can see how it would be a nice name for a child nowadays as it's not very common. I think you can be confident she'll be the only one in her class.
Always said I wouldn't reveal my name on mn but I'm hardly going to out myself am I there are millions of Clare's out there

I'm a Claire. There were a couple of us in first school, but I was the only one in my year at high school. The only problem I have with it is that you can't do much with it. At least with a longer name it can be personalised a bit more? Like Maybe Clarissa, it can be shortened to Claire, but also to Lissy or Lis. Though I personally hate Clarissa and am not personally advocating it :P

I think Claire is nice. Much nicer than Clara in my opinion.

I'm an Amanda and I never really liked my name. Would have preferred Clare! I think Clare is more classless whereas Clara seems more of a Waitrose sort of name.

Claire is nice and sensible and I believe it's very trendy in America.

But nice and sensible names don't really thrill me.
