Due next month and asked my mum's opinion on baby names. Her choices are so un-mumsnet!!

Christian with a K
Catherine but only with a K
Crystal with a K!
Jacinta

She then proceeded to tell me she wanted to call my sister Diamond!!

I salute your mum!

Krystal and Diamond sound like a go getting pair of Jackie Collins heroines!

Holy shit!

WowserBowser · 16/07/2014 13:28

They are fucking brilliant!

I hope you have quadruplets.

Them bad boys all need an airing.

Droflove · 16/07/2014 13:44

Oh dear....

WowserBowser · 16/07/2014 13:45

Too many good ones to choose from Dr ?

Vintagejazz · 16/07/2014 14:16

I don't see anything wrong with Katherine Blush

Onesleeptillwembley · 16/07/2014 14:18

Kathryn or Katherine are fine. Jacinta is an old Spanish Catholic name. They're both great.
The stripper names aren't. Please tell me she went for the good ones when she named you.

My mum wanted me to call dd2 Chantelle after a lovely girl at work. There is nothing wrong with the name Chantelle but it is just not us. Pil wanted Jasmine. So our list was like

Emma
Amy
Lucy
Anna
Chantelle
Jasmine

It was funny Grin

Every time I am expecting my mother in law, desperately suggests the name Celeste. :/

manicinsomniac · 16/07/2014 14:39

Katherine is beautiful.

I teach a Kristian in a very posh school so I don't know if it would 'fail' the mumsnet test necessarily. Could it not be Dutch or something?

I used to adore the name Crystal as a child. Not so much now but it's fine and actually spelling it Krystal makes it more distinct from the stone.

Jacinta - hmmm, don't like this.

weatherall · 16/07/2014 14:42

Kathryn is fine. It's a proper spelling imo.

Kristian could get away with if non British.

Jacinta would end up with nn Jackie surely?

myotherusernameisbetter · 16/07/2014 14:54

Jacinta would end up with nn Jackie surely? or Jinty :o

Sophronia · 16/07/2014 17:47

I like Katharine spelled this way, and Jacinta isn't bad.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 16/07/2014 18:20

God yes - Jacinta - starts off so well, but give it thirty years and she'll be Our Jackie. JAAACK-IEE!!!

Happy36 · 16/07/2014 18:23

Not sure about Krystal.

The others are lovely although personally I have the nickname/abbreviation criteria so while I love Jacinta I wouldn't be happy with people calling her Jac or Jackie.

Happy36 · 16/07/2014 18:26

A close friend of mine marks GCSE English exam. papers. Last year she was assigned the "Foundation Tier" i.e. weakest candidates. After that she created the term "Foundation tier names" as she'd noticed that approx. 90% of the candidates had first names starting with...K.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 16/07/2014 18:29

Purple you could indulge you MIL and give her Celeste as a middle name. First name Marie Grin.

WisemansBridge · 16/07/2014 18:32

After hearing those hilarious ideas I'd love to know your name op (and your sisters too, if you'd be so kind) Grin

DealForTheKids · 16/07/2014 18:35

Re Jacinta nn - what about Cindy?!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/07/2014 18:39

Grin at IlkleyMoorBahTwat, and the name too.

Surely your DM realises that the only name to spell crystal is Cristal?

Ilovetea69 · 16/07/2014 18:49

Wisemans - we are Indian and have lovely Indian names - thank god!!

Not sure what my mum's obsession with the letter K is! I called her a Kardashian Grin

WisemansBridge · 16/07/2014 18:56

Ah so you had a lucky escape! Grin

Wishfulmakeupping · 16/07/2014 18:56

Katherine is fine but kristal and Diamond I don't quite know what to say?!

DrJuno · 16/07/2014 19:03

Well I love Jacinta and Celeste, and Kristian is ok...

I know a Jacinta and it doesn't get shortened at all. It's a beautiful Catholic saints name

MaryWestmacott · 16/07/2014 20:44

That you are Indian and your mum likes the 'unusual names' that sound like Jackie Collins characters makes sense.

I used to work with a woman called Nicola. Her mum was Polish and moved to the UK when she was a student in the 60s. She thought that Nicola sounded terribly exotic...
