Incidentally, what image does chavvy conjure up?

Croydon facelift, gold massive hoops, track suit for non exercise purposes?

:( I only know one Kayleigh and chavvy is very far from it. OP maybe it depends where you live?

RiverTam · 09/07/2014 12:22

for me, I don't like it because it's very 80s and too strongly associated with the song. So if you're huge Marillion fans, go for it.

Sound-wise, I think it goes well with Ben, but it's a very different kind of name, Ben is timeless and, if it matters, classless. What about Sadie?

hedgehogy · 09/07/2014 12:31

I like it. I know a lovely Kayleigh though (who is not at all 'chavvy').

I agree with the poster above who says that the Kaylee spelling would be different.

PopcornFrenzy · 09/07/2014 14:10

I'm on the south coast and I really don't know anyone who's chavvy, so yeah maybe it's a regional thing?

Nay for me. I know a woman with the name, she was named after the song and it is the one thing people will always say/sing to her. She hates it!

Paddingtonthebear · 09/07/2014 14:22

Bit dated for me, so I will say Nay.

How about Callie? Or Kira?

Paddingtonthebear · 09/07/2014 14:24

Incidentally, I have known two Kayleigh's, a Keighley (pronounced Kylie) and one Kaye. All lovely, all English , all 80/90's born

KoalaDownUnder · 09/07/2014 14:36

Nope. Super 1980s tacky.

It has nothing to do with the 'k' thing, for me; I love some k names. It's just too dated, and I don't like the -leigh ending.

In the same camp as Kimberley, Hayley, Kylie, Jodie.

Gingerjv · 09/07/2014 14:42

I do not like this name(

PopcornFrenzy · 09/07/2014 14:48

Dated to me are names like Edith, Elsie and old lady names but they're quite popular.

Ah, y'see, I love the spelling Kaylee, although I know PPs have labelled it chavvy - it's the name of my favourite character from the short-lived cult tv show Firefly. I'd use it on that basis, although it probably wouldn't be top of my list.

I also think the Kayleigh spelling is lovely, and if you like it you should use it. If you're not sure, then maybe do something I think I've read on here before - write it, along with middle and last name, on a post it and leave it somewhere you'll see it regularly. Then you'll find out if it grows on you or not.

Misspilly88 · 09/07/2014 15:12

Mega nay!

MrsWinnibago · 09/07/2014 15:16

Reminds me of the FABULOUS Marillion song. So yay from me.

squoosh · 09/07/2014 15:31

If you type the name Kayleigh into google images all sorts of glamour model 'stunnas' pop up.

My name throws up pictures of a cartoon character!

MrsWinnibago · 09/07/2014 16:01

Squoosh type Ethel in!

squoosh · 09/07/2014 16:05

Poor Ethel!

Terrible name. Grin

crazylady321 · 09/07/2014 16:48

yay - I do like it but I agree it is a bit dated but sometimes that can be a good thing. I dont think its chavvy either my exs sister is called that and shes a rock chic.

aoife24 · 09/07/2014 19:45

To me a bit naff and 90s.

manicinsomniac · 09/07/2014 19:57

I love it. Really pretty name.

pilates · 09/07/2014 22:24

No it's awful, sorry.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 10/07/2014 15:29

Haven't read the full thread yet, but I'm a Kayleigh. I didn't like it when I was younger, but really like my name now!

I get called Kiki and Keeks.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 10/07/2014 15:32

Hi mum! waves

Hairylegs47 · 10/07/2014 23:30

Hi pet! waves back.

wizzler · 10/07/2014 23:43

Like the name but not with your surname ... sorry!

whotheduckisalice · 12/07/2014 09:13

I love it because of the beautiful song. Maybe I would have avoided it in the 80s but it could be cool and slightly ironic now! (Tho I am not cool so can't confirm that).
