It sounds like a very old lady name to me, but then lots of old lady name seem to be popular now. Love the nickname Vivi for a little girl though.

ScummyWithGin · 07/07/2014 15:04

I love, love, love it!! It's my favourite name but sadly DH hates it so I'll never get to use it. Please use it as there need to be more Viviennes in the world! Rose is a very popular middle name but it does go very well.

CruCru · 07/07/2014 15:49

It is lovely. I know a little Vivienne (must be nearly 5) and she gets called Vivi. Sweet girl.

VintageLace · 07/07/2014 17:14

I think DH is on the verge of vetoing it Sad all because his sister laughed in my face and royally took the piss for about half an hour when I mentioned it Angry

We BOTH loved it until now.

Now I feel really childish for being upset over a name. I had my heart set on it and we had even been referring to the baby as Vivi Sad

I really like this name, but like a previous poster I prefer Vivien (and Isabel, Juliet etc).

CPtart · 07/07/2014 17:25

SIL is VIvienne (mid forties) known as Viv. I think of it as a hard, ugly name. Sorry.

TryingToBePractical · 07/07/2014 17:32

I know a little Vivi (short for Vivienne) and I think Vivi is a sweet name. Not sure about Vivienne. The one I know is pronounced more like ViviENNE (parents from overseas) which I like but i think here would be pronounced more like Vyvian from the Young Ones which I dont like - quite hard. And I agree Viv is awful. But if it works for the Jolie-Pitts....

If you like the nickname Vivi, maybe also think about Genevieve - I know one who was Vivi when she was tiny (although now more often known Evie since school).

domoarigato · 07/07/2014 17:37

Who cares what others think

Nereida · 07/07/2014 17:52

I pronounce Vivienne 'viv-ee-ENN' (which I think is the French way / spelling) but Vivien as 'VIV-ee-en.' I like both.

MamaLazarou · 07/07/2014 19:56

A really beautiful name.

deXavia · 07/07/2014 20:04

I have a Vivienne - she could be nothing else, it absolutely suits her. Inspired by Vivienne Westwood and my DD is proving equally 'unique' in her attitude to life.
By the way bonus points that it's really easy to spell in Reception but looks long and impressive Wink

Gingerjv · 07/07/2014 20:26

Vivienne Rose sounds amazingly beautiful to me! Vivienne is one of my fav names!!! Who, for God's sake, can not love it?;-))

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! I don't think it sounds hard or old at all! I think cool screen siren, and Vivi is a lovely nickname. Win win. Tell your other half to screw what his nearest and dearest think, this random stranger on the internet thinks it's awesome and refreshing!! ??

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 08/07/2014 17:09

Tell your DH that if he lets his sister spoil the name you want for your first born, you'll NEVER forgive her.

Vivienne is lovely, but I think I prefer Vivien - it's a bit more tough, less girly, a bit more dramatic without silliness. Vivien Leigh comes to mind. A Vivien Rose would have looked dashing in an open-topped car in the 1920s.

Vivi is a great nn.

The silly thing is that before a baby is here, EVERYONE will have strong opinions, which they may not even have seriously thought through. They just like to have a comment to make. 'Oohh!! Don't like THAT!' - it's rubbish, it's rarely based on anything. If you'd introduced little Vivien Rose after the birth, bigmouth sis would probably be gushing about how unusual it is and how much she likes it. There was a thread I saw today with OP saying how her mum kicked up a fuss about her DS's name, she stuck to her guns, latterly her mum has commented that she likes it now. Imagine if she'd given up on the name - gutting.

IGNORE everyone, stop talking about names, then name her Vivien. In a year, all the family will be boasting about how lovely and unusual it is.

Clarabell33 · 08/07/2014 17:13

Love it. Vivienne Rose has been on my list for ages. If I ever have a DD...

NN - vaguely knew a girl called Vez for years at uni. Assumed was Verity - turned to be Vivienne. Who'd have thought.

HaroldLloyd · 08/07/2014 17:16

I LOVE it.

rachel234 · 08/07/2014 17:18

I like it but prefer the spelling and pronunciation of Vivian.

ashtrayheart · 08/07/2014 17:22

Yes I love it and would call a dd it if I ever had another.

Lenzien · 08/07/2014 17:34

My name is Vivienne, and I must admit that I really like it now. Especially as I grew up in a sea of Sarahs, Clares, Rachels, Alisons, etc etc.

It's pretty easy to spell, (just say 2 of every letter), and it's unusual without being out there. And it's quite elegant, which I am not.

I always liked that it means 'lively' which is a nice thing, especially for a little girl.

I was called Vivienne all through school, but changed tp Viv at uni, and am sometimes, Vivienne, Vee, or Vivi. I really liked that I had the choice.

Go for it, we need more out there!

VintageLace · 08/07/2014 19:56

Thank you everyone.

told DH about the thread and he is more inclined to ignore the negative comments now Wink

Looks like baby Vivi will be on the cards still after all!

just need to decide on the spelling now.

I like Vivienne.

Linguaphile · 09/07/2014 09:31

Well, we have a baby Vivienne, so I'm a bit biased! I love it and we get loads of compliments (London-based, so maybe that makes a difference?). We call her Vivi for short, which feels nicely baby-ish and sweet.

ViviPru · 09/07/2014 13:24

Love it. Natch Wink

HenI5 · 09/07/2014 21:28

SIL's just rude Angry
Vivien/Vivian Leigh was beautiful and Vivienne Westwood successful and inspirational.

I like the more feminine Vivienne spelling myself and when I think of a little Vivi she would be funny, smiling and with a thoughtful side to her. A teenager would be cool, a grown woman would be chic and clever, probably annoyingly good at everything but popular too and an elderly Vivienne would be something of a tour de force, elegant and scary but very popular with the younger generation.

So there Grin
