Honest opinions on Axel?

It was suggested to me on another thread and dp likes it and I think I might. We were thinking Max and I wanted Abel but dp isn't keen and Axel is actually a mix of the two :p

I'm not sure I have the balls to do it though!

Actually Maximus axel goes quite nicely.

fanjodisfunction · 20/06/2014 21:45

I like it but agree the Axl spelling is better.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 22:12

I think the Axl spelling doesn't look like a real name :p

I too prefer the Axl spelling. But Rex is a good name, someone mentioned Rex up thread.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 22:32

Mostly because it isn't; it's a part anagram for oral sex (Axl Rose)

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 22:46

Also reread a bit and liking the nickname Jem but not keen on Jeremiah (or Jeremy) any other names that can shorten to Jem?

OP posts:
HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 22:47

I know someone that just has a Jem.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 20/06/2014 22:50

James?

But Jem on it's own would be fine.

Jem is better than Axl, def!

HaroldLloyd · 20/06/2014 22:57

Says on the second one it's a medieval form of James.

Not all that keen on names that sound like a nickname without a full name.

James is dps name and he hates it!

Now have theme tune to Beverly Hills Cop playing in my head. I don't object to the name though, it's just a very obvious association (if you are an old git like me)

rockybalboa · 20/06/2014 23:10

I dunno Cote, I was talking to someone over the phone at work who I was sure was called Jem and then received an email from Cem. I was confuddled.

What about Augustus, and Gus.

Alita7 · 20/06/2014 23:32

Sorry no to Gust!

It made me think of Axel Scheffler... he's German. Because he is a well known Julia D artist I would think that you'd chosen the name because it was in the public sphere, like a slightly more highbrow equivalent of Keira or Bear, for example.

fattycow · 21/06/2014 00:47

I like Axel!

Nereida · 21/06/2014 01:16

Axel reminds me of Axl Rose, who I'm not a fan of, and as another poster said, Axl spelt this way was just so he could get the anagram 'oral sex' from his name. Axel also reminds me of cars and axle grease.

RAFWife12 · 21/06/2014 08:01

Personally I don't like it, sorry. Love Max though!
Tobago - I'm 26 and totally thought Guns n Roses! Not all under 30's don't know good music Wink

BlueStarsAtNight · 21/06/2014 08:39

I know a little 2 year old Axel, and it really suits him - he is a bit of a dude and a live-wire! So I like it.

I do like Maximus more I think (though prefer Maxwell).

How about

Beau
Tate
Flynn
Jude

devoncreamtea · 21/06/2014 08:39

Quite cool I think - it's Scandi? Like your other choices too - especially Abel, the nn Abe is great!

LaVolcan · 21/06/2014 09:12

I like it - it makes me think of hunky blond Norwegians who win loads of skiing prizes at the winter Olympics.
