Struggling with boys names

devoncreamtea · 04/06/2014 08:32

Hello everyone,

Finding it hard to come up with any names I really like for a boy...

I like simple names, 'rustic' in feel (!!) old fashioned ish but not things like Arthur. Not bothered about popularity.

I already have 3 girls: Meg, Bess and Emma and 1 boy - Rafe.

Love the name Rafe and would really like to find something I love as much for this chap.

My list changes daily (hormonal...) but liking:
Jem
Laurie

My dh likes Ed, but I HATE it....

If you have something to throw into the pot, please do!

Really love both Jem and Laurie (Laurie would work well with Meg in the Little Women theme!).

Also:

Alistair
Leo
Barnaby
Sebastian
Hugo

I quite like Edwin and Edmund as alternatives to Edward but agree I'm not so keen on Ed as a nn either!!

Thank you! Lovely suggestions. I have some more contenders too, having exhausted every name website in existence!

Jem
Laurie
Soren
Alexander
Sascha
Lachlan
Ellis
Tom

Jude is my mum's name!

I like Sebastian and Toby from suggestions made.

I feel like I'm being very picky - but I find that although I really like lots of names suggested, they just don't grab me - I think I have just set myself a high bar with loving my other Son's name so much!

Thanks so much for your help

Thanks - I like Seth, but my daughter struggles with 'th' sounds (she's 11 so a speech rather than baby thing) which might frustrate her.

Otto is great! Will add to list.

Rowan is lovely, but is my SILs name.

I wouldn't mind another Scandi name (Rafe is a Norse name) - we have some Scandi names in family, but all quite obscure and unpronounceable!

Jem would be perfect with your other names Smile.

I think you probably need another short one syllable name (or nn at least) - I would choose Jem, but some others that spring to mind are;

Joss (nn for Joshua if you like "proper" names on the BC)
Seth
Jack
Zen (seems slightly odd on first hearing, but a good friend has a little Zen and it has really grown on me!)
Kit (nn for Christopher)

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 04/06/2014 15:07

Also, we met a little boy on holiday called Edwin. It's a name I've seen suggested on here but I've always thought "eww, no, too old man" - but actually it seemed really nice on him!

His sister was Emma.

devoncreamtea · 04/06/2014 15:11

Thanks Santa (great name!) Love Joss, Jack is sweet, but is already taken in family. I think Kit is cool,(love Kitty for a girl).

If this little one was a girl I would go for Ingrid or Anouk. For some reason I find girls names easy but boys names so tricky....

Edwin! Some names just change for you when you meet one in real life, I would never pick Arthur, but I know a really lovely little boy named Arthur so it has lost it's Eastenders association for me (old!!)

I have an Edward who is Ted/Teddy as DP HATED Ed too!

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 04/06/2014 15:19

Doesn't help you, but I'm in the same boat and know exactly how you feel about not other names grabbing you. Pg with DC2 and no idea what to call him if he's a boy. There was one boy's name that I loved, and I used it. I've got nothing else...!

Rafe is lovely by the way

devoncreamtea · 04/06/2014 15:21

Oh that's sweet flips - Ted! I've seen it as a nn for 'Theodore' (makes me think of The Chipmunks) but not for Edward. Food for thought!

I love the name Ned, but we have an unfortunate surname for that name - unless I wanted to name him after the outlaw!
