Stuck for (Scottish but not necessarily) boy name.

DC2 is due in a few weeks time (don't know what we're having) and I'm stuck for a boys name.DH has named DS mainly because he rejected EVERY SINGLE NAME that I had on my list.As the result both of DS's names came from DH.I agreed on DS's names because I was fed up with the fact that all of the names chosen by me were rejected and I had nothing against the names that DH offered (I neither liked them or disliked them, they suit DS so no regrets here).

Now I said to DH that it's my turn to name DC2 and because I didn't make him any problems naming DS I'd expect him to exchange the same courtesy to me.He was a bit taken aback but tough.

Names that were on my list before DS was born (all vetoed by DH):

Allister/Alasdair
Calum
Colin
Conrad
Craig
Felix
Fergus
Finlay
Graham
Grant
Gregor
Harold
Kenneth
Liam
Logan
Magnus
Marcus
Murray
Neil/Niall
Robin
Ross

Names we can't use:

Alexander
Andrew
Angus/Innes
Ian/Iain
William
finishing with "an" e.g. Jonathan,Tristan

If anybody could give me some suggestions I'd be really grateful as I look at boys names every couple of days and can't find anything that i really like. Many thanks :)

Anything finishing with -an doesn't go with our surname which is a bummer as I love Struan,Jonathan or Evan.

I'm still thinking about

Harold (DH cringes but nn Harry is nice and the name is not too popular at the moment)
Kenneth
Finlay
Lewis (prefer this to Harris on our holidays)

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming :)

BTW,if DC2 is a girl we've already got a name chosen (by me of course) and accepted by DH.If he changes his mind about that I'll either whack him with his granny's very heavy frying pan or tell him his fortune...

I know someone with two boys called Harris and Lewis.

I wonder if they have a DC3 will s/he get called Eigg?

Innes?

devoncreamtea · 30/05/2014 09:49

I love the name Lachlan at the moment. And Cameron is great, but makes me think of the PM...

Could you just have a Harry if dh doesn't like Harold? Or Harrison?

I like Finlay on your list too

lotsofcheese · 30/05/2014 09:55

Roderick/Roddy?

soontobeslendergirl · 30/05/2014 09:59

I have a Craig and our alternative choice was Gregor :)

our other son is Ciar (Keir)

Also on our list were:

Alec
Ross
Walker
Cairn
Blaven

I liked Euan, Fraser, Kerr and Struan (as that's a traditional choice on my side of the family) but they were vetoed. I vetoed Ciaran and Creagh (i liked the normal spelling). I also loved Callum but my sister got there first. OH liked Andrew but I have a nephew with that name too.

In the end, I got the name I wanted for No2 son (It was down to Keir or Ciaran) and he got to spell it.

soontobeslendergirl · 30/05/2014 10:07

Just had another look at your list in the OP, both my boys middle names are on it as are another couple I forgot about, Grant & Niall.

We clearly have similar taste though there are a few that I would veto too.

What is your son's name or don't you want to say?

I'm with your OH on Harold i'm afraid.

Another one I like but is not really Scottish (I think it's more Irish?) is Cormac and I've also come across a Merrick which is nice too - we spent a while sticking a pin in a map of Scotland and seeing what we hit and OH is also into his mountains.

Weegiemum · 30/05/2014 10:08

Murdo
Tormond
Brodie
Lorn
Lewis
Malcolm
Seamus
Seonaidh
Donald/Domhall
Aidan/Aodhan (though that's an -an name, but I've got one!)
Scott.

Would you go for Gaelic spellings?

florascotia · 30/05/2014 10:13

Brodie
Finn
Blair
Duncan
Dougal
Athol
Fergal
Finbar
Colm
Bruce
Adair
Donal
Wallace
Ronan

BaldHedgehog · 30/05/2014 10:37

Gosh, I don't want to tell you the surname ( that's why can't use the names finishing with -an) and a couple of names you offered are actually DS and DH names :)

I'm not into fancy or made-up names, just want something that will sound fine with our surname and won't raise the eyebrows later in DC2 life.

devoncreamtea · 30/05/2014 10:45

she said your other son's name, not surname!

what about something like Joseph

soontobeslendergirl · 30/05/2014 10:54

or maybe something a bit simpler then?
